Dedecting and tracking are two different processes. While your domestic ground radar dedecting a target at very low altitude( which s400' radar cant) and at 400km or 350km range , how could the fire control radar and engament radar of s400 engage and lock at very low altitude at long distance? The missiles need to be guided by the radar of the system.
The s400 system already has two different radars to guide missiles. Using domestic ground radars and connecting with s400s command post would be useless as they cant guide the missiles.
Ground radars and engament radars are different techniques and technologies.

So my words have been verified, paying twice to s400 instead of cheaper system is nonsense. Chinese SAM offer with ToT and reasonable price happens to be very good.
At least Turkey could have bought more quantity and could have penetrated all airspace from more batteries.

Ther is no offically statement about how bad S400 is, airforce love the S400 and they learned a lot. I am quessing that our airforce have tested and like other SAM they found flaws of a long range SAM like the others. And a newspaper spread it without knowledge. I am sure ther is nothing wrong with S400. If we buy SAMPT or Chinese crap it will end no good in the hands of this newspaper.

2 reasons:
1) the US has sanctions on Russia and there's in general unity and consensus on those sanctions which only Turkey broke among NATO countries

2) they don't want to risk F-35's radar signature to be learned and compromised.

There's this false belief among Turkish people that s-400 is the holy grail of defenses. The US can destroy it. Even Israel can. The US has been building her war doctrine and her weapons on beating layers of Russian integrated defenses which S-400 are only a part of.

After all, when Turkey shot down Russian plane a few years ago, Russia didn't retaliate not because Turkey had great air defense or a great airforce but because Turkey was NATO and attacking Turkey risked dealing with US F-15s in Incirlik and F-22s in the gulf.

That was the better defense Turkey had and gave up for S-400s.

Turkey appears ready to buy a long-range Chinese surface-to-air missile system despite its incompatibility with Nato equipment.

Turkey is a key Nato member, and reports say US and French arms firms have been vying with China's CPMIEC.

The $3.4bn (£2.2bn) Chinese system would be used "without integrating with Nato systems", Turkish Defence Minister Ismet Yilmaz said.

Reports say Nato and the US have urged Turkey not to accept the Chinese offer.

According to a Turkish defence industry official, Ankara has not yet taken a final decision on its planned long-range missile defence system and contract talks with China are continuing, Reuters news agency reports.

He was speaking after the comments from Mr Yilmaz, who was responding to MPs' questions about Turkey's missile defence project.

Mr Yilmaz said Turkey had finished the evaluation process for the project.

The Russian news website Lenta.ru reports that Turkey plans to buy at least 12 Chinese HQ-9 missile batteries. The Chinese system is cheaper than rival systems, it reports.

The other contenders for the contract, Lenta.ru reports, were: the Patriot made by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin in the US, the SAMP/T made by the French-Italian consortium Eurosam, and Russia's Antey-2500 made by Rosoboronexport
