Turkey to develop new medium combat aircraft

I don't want to be seen as a bad cop but there is no way for Turkey to buy JF-17. At this point, Turkey cannot go for old generation aircraft, also there are two different projects to modernise Turkish airforce;

1) F35, to replace F-4
2) TF-X, to replace F-16

Even if we couldn't get F35 which is highly unlikely, we would go for J-31 (with Turkish avionics installed) instead of JF-17.

You're not the only one who thinks like this. I really dislike ppl spitting out things that'll postpone our own indigenous design and growth.

Have we even tested whether our systems and weapons and rockets can be integrated to Russian/Chinese designs ? if not that'll set us back further.

These are advanced trainers. There are not too many options.

SNC worked with Aviation Week & Space Technology, the premier defense industry magazine, to reveal the Freedom Trainer that was been in work secretly for more than a year.
More then a year, I post that in December 2016 in aviation discussen for, which means Tai and SNC working on since 2015.

I was basically asking the same thing.
There's nothing similar to buy from Pak.

Well in all fairness even we wouldn't buy JF-17 thunder if we could have bought F-35 and advance F-16... JF-17 was a desperate measure to atleast have something flying with BVR in case of war... It turned a pretty decent machine but still for more advance nations we need to come up something like J-10C or Gripen NG

Western countries spend a schit load of money on marketing, lobbying and outright bribing to make their "marginally better but excessively overpriced" products look like your nation would be wiped out without them.

Ukrainian Turbofan ! Interesting ! Turkish turbofan engine will power up domestic platforms like Hurjet for future but It seems some foreign alternatives are being considered as a stop-gap solution until domestic equivalents revealed.
Its a small (light) aircraft then why it needs two engines.

I believe that we will see the jet trainer soon in the air (within 3-4 years, which is the time duration for full certification) and predict that TAI will cooperate with Alenia-Leonardo Aerospace which has great experience in developing and combining east/west technology in his M-346 jet trainer, which has twin engines and was co-developed with Yakovlew. Cabatli gave us a good hint;
engines could be Ivchenko-Progress AI-222 .
The engines could later be used in UCAV's comparable to X-45 . We have them also in development pipeline.
The revised TAI design is similar to M-346

JF 17 is a very capable and affordable option especialy with coming Turkish AESA radar, Air to Air Missiles, Air to ground ammunition, avonics and targeting pods or may be even with a rolls royce engine who knows. instead of sending F 35 with high maintenance to every mission we can use JF 17 as the workhorse of the Air force for instance bombing PKK hideouts or may be as an advanced jet trainer. we have many on going projects. this may save money and time for us I mean using an already existing platform. Further, with above mantioned upgrades it will be a totally diffrent fighter and who knows in the long run we may even make profit out of it.

But that timeline is simply impossible, ridiculous ... just look how long Hongdu needed to develop the L-15/JL-10 based on the same design.

It could make it's first flight in 4-5 years, but of course it won't be ready just because it can fly. Lots of avionics+weapons to be installed and tested additional 2-3 years, and then additional 2-3 years to setup serial production line and produce jets.

I expect this project to give it's first serial production jets into Turkish Airforce inventory in next 8-10 years.
