Sikh man jailed for attack on Lieutenant General (retd) KS Brar in London | NDTV.com

London: A 26-year-old Sikh man was today jailed for 10 years in London for making an attempt on the life of Lt General (retd) Kuldip Singh Brar, who led the 1984 Operation Bluestar to flush out extremists from the Golden Temple.

The pro-Khalistani supporters tried to slash the throat of 78-year-old Brar in a revenge attack on the streets of central London in 2012 for his role in leading the operation at the Sikh holy shrine in Amritsar.

Lakhbir Singh was the fifth man to be sentenced for the attack after being convicted for grievous bodily harm with intent at Southwark Crown Court in London.

A gang of three men and a woman were jailed in December for their role in the attack.

The trial heard that the gang targeted Brar, himself a Sikh, in revenge for his leading role in Operation Bluestar against Sikh militants that left 1000 people dead.

Brar survived the knife attack, which left him with a 12-inch cut across his jaw. Brar, who was on a holiday in London, returned to India and gave evidence through video link.

He was attacked when he was returning to his hotel after dinner in central London with his wife Meena in September 2012.

just because they have freedom of speech these khalistani fags used to give false speeches .. they mistook it for a covert support from UK.

This strong sentence would be a good deterrent from now on for these cowards who were trying to slash a 78 year old unarmed guy's throat !

F*ck these khalistani clowns !

No seriously these clowns are fighting for nothing.
they can make there khalistan wonderland in uk or canada

India should increase cooperation with UK and Canadian government in dealing the last remaining blow to these leftover Khalistani extremists in their soil before they again pose any major security threat to any of us in future.

It took 4 young people with knives to attack a 78 year old Indian General. And even then the General fought and survived.

Respect for the General.
The young people had no idea who they were messing with. He was a war hero, winner of gallantry awards for heroics on the battlefield, commander of some of the most important army formations, one of the first to charge into Dhaka in '71. Unarmed and old, he was still too much for those idiots. By the way, here are the faces of those losers, who will rot in prison:

Quote from the judge when sentencing them:
Reid added: "Lieutenant General Brar was targeted in a highly planned and pre-meditated attack. Harjit Kaur was instrumental in carrying out reconnaissance of the area and followed the Brars around London. The couple was set upon in what was a swift, effective and terrifying ambush; Sandhu and Singh held Lieutenant General Brar down as Sangha slashed at his neck with a knife. The group clearly targeted Lieutenant General Brar in revenge for his actions during his military career and today's convictions are another reminder that the UK will not tolerate extremism of any kind."

While sentencing the four, the judge said that Brar "resolutely fought back" and prevented an even more serious harm, and added that the “attack falls within the most serious category of wounding with intent”.

Now this is exactly that every one needs to contemplate on.Why did they need 4 men for one old general?? If the real intention had been to kill him a covert terror op by a single terrorist would have been enough. It's very apparent that the real intention behind this attack was to divert peoples attention towards a lost cause once again or to give a new impetus to dying Khalistani sentiments in Canada which was at its peak at some point of timeamongst those who had freshly fled Punjab at that time.

Maybe they did not have the capability to launch a sophisticated covert op, and what they did was the best they could come up with? You are mistaking incapability for intent.

Besides, assassinating him would also have been equally, if not more attention grabbing. It's not like this attack would have garnered more attention than a succesful assassination.

Mate, may be u are right but I know pretty well how these Khalistani scums try to gather momentum. And let me tell u that if Lt. Brar would have been killed in the attack the punishment would have been harsher. They dont want that, they want these men to go behind the bars for a short time span and then come out as heroes and spread false propaganda as to how they were tortured to death by the Indians inside an UK prison and so on.:woot:The intention being to make a statement without giving a speech maybe they want to convey to the others with some sanity left in their heads,"look we have not been able to accomplish our (so called) mission. It is now upto the rest of u to take the matter into your own hands and finish our unfinished task" to pull in more crowd and not to mention which are the agencies at play here!!;)

Did they deliberately forget the fact that the man they were trying to kill was also a devout Sikh himself:hitwall:!Lt.General Brar is one of the most patriotic persons to have commanded the Army. These morons just don't understand the fact that India belongs to the Sikhs as much as it belong to the rest of us and the majority of the Sikh populace living in India are patriots and are against the notion of having a separate homeland.Plus they already have their Khalistan in state of Punjab which is perhaps the most affluent state in the Indian Union....:coffee:

Mississauga is full of them, they even put khalistani flags on their cars. Doubt Canadian govt would do anything, heck, even air India bombers were let go.

They should have used pistols just like they used previously against former Indian COAS
General Vaidya.

Bad tactics I must say.
