Brother, the current NO11 BARS radar has been proved to be more than sufficient during many trials and exercises with friendly airforces.

Its searching/tracking ranges are excellent and are already giving it an edge over other 4+ gen fighters in service.

Do you know SU-30 MKI are also known as mini-AWACS and they can also detect ground targets like small convoys and tanks at 50 km.

U.S. Senate Report on BCCI

Author:
Publication: The Times of India
Date: October 4, 2002

Tale of Corruption in high places

The controversial BCCI had 'questionable' relationships with officials from all over the world, including India, a U.S. Senate sub-committee investigating the bank has reported, according to PTI.

The Kerry sub-committee gives several cases of payoffs it 'has been best able to document'. This document makes no reference to the family of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, though a former BCCI official, Mr. Abdur Sakhia, has alleged that the family of the late prime minister was 'in the payoff of the BCCI

Now, times of india becomes an authentic source.

The kerry sub-committee doesn't have any document to prove it. Just an allegation by the accused.

HAL is charging $100 million for every new Su-30 Super 30 variant, and $48 million to upgrade a MKI to Super 30 standards according to figures released in parliament.

The high unit costs are probably attributable to

1. Low Order Quantity

2. Transfer of Technology

We first ask Russia to build a customized version of their aircraft for us and then ask them to transfer the technology to HAL, which then sets up the infrastructure to locally manufacture the aircraft. No doubt we end up paying so much.

Once you master a type of technology, rope in the private sector to continue further development and research?

what is the cost if we buy it from Russia intead of making it here???:what:

$100 million for a Su-30 :woot:

Really now nobody has a right to criticize Typhoon for being expensive !

If we can pay that much for a Su-30, we can certainly go for Typhoon.

The truth is MKI are updagrded becasue of below info.

In the Red Flag 2008 exercise, the F-15 and F-16 "dominated" the Su-30. The Su-30 doesn't begin to approach the F-22 Raptor, and the upgraded F-15C Eagles with AESA radar may also prove superior. In the Red Flag 2008 jamming between aircraft nullified radar-guided missiles and allowed the aircraft to come into the merge. The Indians tried to use their "air show tricks", but the US pilots used the tactics they had developed to move in behind the Flankers when they started "sinking" and to quote a pilot, "drill their brains out with guns".:hang2:

There are a couple of things wrong with the source you posted. First of all no one knows the full details of the upgrade. Its all speculation. The quote price could include spare parts, training etc. That would surely drive up the price. The 100 million dollars could include new weaponry especially the new a2a missiles being developed for Pak-FA. Could also include new the new ram used on the Su-35 BM, new engines, AESA upgrade, conformal AESA radars, upgraded EWS, the list goes on.
Until you know the whole scope of the upgrade, can't make remarks on the price. Also attributing the cost to low orders? You have purchased 272 of them how is that a low quantity, its more fighters than most countries have in their entire air force.

India has placed orders with the Russian defense industry to modernize Su-30MKI Flanker-H fighters produced in India under the Russian license, India Today magazine reported in its June issue, without disclosing the sum of the contract.

The project codenamed Super 30 stipulates the installation of new radars, onboard computers, electronic warfare systems and BrahMos supersonic missiles on 40 Su-30MKI fighters, the magazine said.

The Indian Air Force currently operates about 100 Su-30MKI fighters and plans to produce another 170 aircraft in the next 10 years under the Russian license.

India has a long history of defense ties with Moscow. The current cooperation program comprises about 200 joint projects, including the transfer of technology for the licensed assembly of T-90 tanks in India, the production of BrahMos missiles and the purchase of Smerch MLRS by India.

The BrahMos missile has a range of 290 km (180 miles) and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg (660 lbs). It can effectively engage ground targets from an altitude as low as 10 meters (30 feet) and has a top speed of Mach 2.8, which is about three times faster than the U.S.-made subsonic Tomahawk cruise missile.

Established in 1998, BrahMos Aerospace, a joint Indian-Russian venture, produces and markets BrahMos supersonic missiles. The sea-based and land-based versions have been successfully tested and put into service with the Indian Army and Navy.
IT MEANS SU 30 MKI WILL BE NOW 4.75 GEN FIGHTER.:)

No it will just be an upgrade 4.5 gen aircraft. The only aircraft that you could make a case for a 4.75 gen fighter is the F-15SE and even that's a stretch.

Rite. other than stealth MKI is excellent in all aspects. I think they are looking into the matter.

I bet non of u read the full article
it specifically mentions that the aircraft being upgraded are meant to carry Brammos cruise missiles
Hence significant changes are required to airframe for this job , add to that
