It depends on where the fight happen . to be honest Iran army projection power is nearly nil
but when it come to operating near Iran it can be quiet a headache for the aggressor

when it come to defense I doubt if Iran want to sink all the ship that uk have in persian gulf
then the English can do any thing about it . Iran can hit them with Persian gulf ballistic missile
at the same time we can throw as many as we like of Anti Ship cruise missiles from shore
batteries at them we also can use our fast boat to fire Kowsar missiles from 20-30 mile away
at them (the missile is weak only 20-30 kg warhead but when used in number they can be
Ugly)also we can use those boats and our midget subs to fire Hoot Torpedo at them which
have a speed more than 250 km/h and a range of 10 miles. and don't forget from the weapon
Iran got from China you can find Some EM-52 Mine.

You see in persian gulf we have the advantage . but let say we want to confront them in Indian Ocean
then we loose the use of those fast boats and shore batteries . what remain is several Frigate and 3
Kilo class subs .to be honest it would be a fight that I prefer avoid no matter what the cost is .

HMS Daring will help air defence of south-west gulf aerospace...you won't make naval battle...
think about F-22, B-2 and cruise missiles..

In this particular case whether they were in Iranian or Iraqi waters is disputed, as for being there in the first place...I'm sure there are a 1000 other threads on that.

can deal with the Guidance system of those cruise missiles .also you can have
effective point defense against them

about B2 and F22 I don't think they will be to much effective against the
weapons I mentioned . if you want to detect and destroy those shore
Batteries then you must wait for them to open fire at first and when they
do that at least I believe it'll be a little late to do anything to them ,at least
from the view point of the target ships , more importantly those missiles
are small and have mobile Launchers so they must be very fast to catch with
the launcher after they opened fire.

and against those midget subs and fast missile and torpedo boat I'm 95% sure F22 and B2
are not ideal measure.and also 110% sure Those airplanes are useless against ay sort of
marine mine even the ones from the era of US Civil War

There is another angle to be considered, IF Iran is attacked, Iran could unleash a whole new wave of attacks in Afghanistan against NATO forces with or without Taliban. This is something US/UK have to consider very carefully, can they afford another Vietnam in Afghanistan?

IF memory serves me right Gulbadin Hekmatyar lived in Tehran for quite a few years, after the Taliban came to power. Don't know if he is still there, nonetheless he and his network is an asset the Iranians can still use in Afghanistan.

So this sabre rattling by the west, might actually turn into a disgraceful retreat!!

Well we were part of the occupying force in Iraq at the time, we had every right to be there in that sense. My 1000 thread remark was in regards to the debate as to whether the entire Iraq war was justified.
