What's new

Poverty Around the world

China doesn't even allow foreign reporters to visit their countryside. NUFF SAID !!

Do you have source for that? Heard about it for the first time. Some restrictions at certain time at certain places like Tibet maybe, but what prevents anyone to go countryside? There are even foreign volunteers working in China's poorest areas.

You do have a point, but here is the thing. You cannot vote out the Communist Party in China because there is no other party to vote for. Yes China has been growing and developing, but lets say tomorrow your leaders become corrupt and your economy slows down (like India today), what will you do? If the Indian people think that something is wrong with their Govt, they can elect a new one every 5 years. If something is fundamentally wrong with the CCP, what will you do?

These all sounds right in theory. And in theory communism is the best. Take a look at United States, yes people can toggle two parties but neither of them can solve the country's problem other than blaming the other for causing it. Then what do you do? When you mentioned that Indian people can elect a new leader every 5 years, does this really mean anything for real poor people on the street? Given a choice of clean running water and the power to vote, what do you thing the poor guy will take? Democracy is good in developed countries since people with time and resource to debate politics on the internet want to have our opinions expressed. But in poor developing countries efficiency and implementation are much more important to the vast majority of poor peoples. Are those without clean water to drink able to tell which leader is better, at all?

Democracy is good but I just feel that it is rediculous to worship it as a religion and believe that it is universally applicable.

Countries with highest HDI are democracies.

Countries with highest HDI are democracies.

Yes, those are "developed" countries.

Here are some examples of "developing" countries that are democracies: Nigeria, Sudan, Columbia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, etc.

Notice the difference?

They were not created as developed. They were developing once.

Yea rite:

According to WFP, India accounts around 50% of the world’s hungry. (more than in the whole of Africa) and its fiscal deficit is one of the highest in the world. India’s Global Hunger Index (GHI) score is 23.7, a rank of 66th out of 88 countries. India’s rating is slightly above Bangladesh but below all other South Asian nations and India is listed under “ALARMING” category. Ref: IFPRI Country Report on India

Around six out of 10 Indians live in the countryside, where abject poverty is widespread. 34.7 % of the Indian population lives with an income below $ 1 a day and 79.9 % below $ 2 a day. According to the India’s planning commission report 26.1 % of the population live below the poverty line. [World Bank’s poverty line of $1 a day, but the Indian poverty line of Rs 360 a month, or 30 cents a day].

Why could you not read the sentiment in which the thread was opened instead of launching into a rant? Before throwing stones - remember you live in a glass house.

Stupidity not having boundaries , another ignorant and senseless post.

Is india one of them??
Failed troll!

Because the country with highest HDI is China which has no democracy!

Democracy is a facade which says:

Look here is your right to choose your national troll every 5 years..and in exchange we are going to take away your food, water, employment and everything else. But you still get to choose your national troll...and these national trolls have multi million dollar funded by a few rich and the famous...so obviously they will work for the interests which funds their bread and butter. The ultimate aim of a politician to enter politics and elections is to get rich. Everything else is a necessity of job description.
