SLAM Supersonic Low-Altitude Missile
The Supersonic Low Altitude Missile or SLAM (not to be confused with the U.S. Navy's current Standoff Land Attack Missile) was a canceled U.S. Air Force project conceived around 1955. Although it never proceeded beyond the initial design and testing phase before being declared obsolete, it represented several radical innovations in tactical aircraft.

The SLAM was designed to complement the doctrine of mutually assured destruction, and as a possible replacement for or augment to the Strategic Air Command system. In the event of nuclear war it was intended to fly below the cover of enemy radar at supersonic speeds, and deliver thermonuclear warheads to roughly 16 targets.

The primary innovation was the engine of the aircraft, which was developed under the aegis of a separate project code-named Project Pluto, after the Roman god of the underworld. It was a ramjet that used nuclear fission to superheat incoming air instead of chemical fuel. Project Pluto produced two working prototypes of this engine, the Tory-IIA and the Tory-IIC, which were successfully tested in the Nevada desert. Special ceramics had to be developed to meet the stringent weight and tremendous heat tolerances demanded of the SLAM's reactor. These were developed by the Coors Porcelain Company. The reactor itself was designed at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory.

.....

also Nazi incendiary bombs.....they used to tie the bombs with hot air baloons, sent them to upper atmosphere..stream of air/winds in upper atmosphere used to carry it to other part of the world where it used to fell and explode..

huge potential for countries having nuclear bombs but no intercontinental ballistik missile.

Why do you need a 1000 ton tank>???

The Landkreuzer P. 1500 Monster was to be 42 m (138 ft) long, weighing 1500 tonnes, with a 250 mm hull front armor, 4 MAN U-boat (submarine) diesel engines, and an operating crew of over 100 men.

The main armament was to be an 800 mm Dora/Schwerer Gustav K (E) railway gun, and with a secondary armament of two 150 mm sFH 18/1 L/30 howitzers and multiple 15 mm MG 151/15 autocannons.

The projected design appears to have been a self-propelled gun rather than a tank, as it lacked a rotating turret or other enclosed structure to protect the crew. It was apparently expected to operate in a similar manner to the original 800mm railroad gun and Karl 600mm self-propelled mortars, launching shells without engaging the enemy with direct fire.

To steam roll and cream the opposition (and friendlies in collateral)

"Captain! We have a Landkreuzer approaching our position!"

"Let's swim across the river and cross the swamp on foot. Let him try to follow us." ;)

1,500 ton armored vehicles are barely more mobile than a steam locomotive off its tracks. The most modest terrain would halt them... a creek, a grove of trees, a meager hill. Lack of any real mobility is why they were never built.

They were in testing, but then , the allies won, and got hold of the facilities. AFAIK, the germans did want the biggest in every field!!

Wernher Von Braun a Nazi Rocket Scientist was behind it and V-2 and all the NASA rockets. He was kidnapped and brought to america where he was offered pardon and american citizenship...........

ironic how americans call Chinese copy cats and yet they stole each every bit of technology from other countries.

amrica goes one step forward than stealing technologies- it steals the mastermind/ scientist behind that technology- intriguing isn't it :D-
