Sub continent was far better in terms of roads & railways under british rule.

Thats a fact.

In fact i wonder wat it would be like had britain stil ruled the sub continent

No offence but indians like urself should change there colonial mentality its said when i see such third class comments my indians...

And our roads are very much better then indian roads... maybe u need another colonialisation by the uk for tht rather then honest ppl.

JHa indeed excellent pics.....feel like travel back in time.....
Jha if you post some comparison pics....street of colonial time and same street as of today, side by side ...little hard work but will be fascinating...

Pics are classy ..... I Love it ..

Why roads were much clean at that time but not now ?

Things have changed for worse ...I am waiting for a similar thread on cities now in pakistan

Growing Population , greater urbanisation , more erratic weather patterns , greater use of car's , more pollution etc.

Have all had an effect on the way roads are in India.

It's a challenge to maintain the same quality of roads , given changing factors.

But poor management over the years also plays a key role.
But not all Indian roads are the same , so you will definitely find some to be far better than others

No offence but indians like urself should change there colonial mentality its sad when i see such third class comments my indians...

I agree , people need to know they can attain similar results themselves , nothing makes us less capable then the British.

Sufficient effort is all people need.

And our roads are very much better then indian roads... maybe u need another colonialisation by the uk for tht rather then honest ppl.

Reason Indian Roads can be dirty is due poor management, But there is also another reason , which is weather patterns that Blow a lot of dust or fine earth on to things.

I am sure the better part of the sub-continent suffer form this.

After a nice rainy day You can find some Indian roads to be quite clean

Jha, thanks for the great pictures.

A minor quibble - the first pix is from 1880 (possibly) but the second one certaionly isn't. Not saying you meant that.
