The newest version of JL-2 uses the N-15 solid fuel propellant which is not inferior to the NEPE-75 propellant used by D5.

The DF-31 family uses the HTPB propellant which is slightly inferior compared to the NEPE, but the N-15 is better than the HTPB.

JL-2 and DF-31 are siblings, but JL-2 is superior to its brother. And the JL-3 might use the N-15B/C propellant which is superior to the NEPE propellant.

In fact, JL-2 weighs about 58 tons, it is about the same size with D5. The range and payload would also be similar to that of D5, but only in the MIRV technology domain, China is currently slightly inferior, but it is expected to catch up with JL-3 (JL-2B)
