Please refer to JFT information pool(which has interviews of officials) and earlier discussions. Speculative timeline is 2014 for the second batch which is coming with IFR.

there aint any - suggest we close this

No sir, this thread is one of my favorite topic, I am desperately know the JF-17 progress. I started to feel this process is more slower.

Good News about refueling, the ground tests recently have been successful and the mid air refueling test will be started on the end of the summer according to PAF Chief.

Our problem is both with "KASH" & "CASH". It is best to focus on our problems for now. We can solve other peoples' problems once we are done with ours. Plus, we can not help those who do not want our help and have not time to think for us. Concept for Ummah is good, and I am with you on this. But we can not help others if they are unable to reform themselves. Arabs have effectively killed Pan-Islamism.

Operationally, JF-17 is not some super-duper weapon system that can solve all problems of the Muslim / Arab world. Nor can it be supported by wishes alone. It needs resources and commitment on ground. Who will maintain it, once it has flown to Syria? Who will foot the bill? Who will manage the supply chain? When Arabs can not maintain their own old weapon systems, how will they maintain our newer ones? Assuming that JF-17 goes against Israelis, how we shall protect it against superior systems that Israelis field currently?

If you wake up from your flight of fancy, you may notice that:

1. More Arabs are dying of repression at the hands of fellow-Arabs.
2. Arabs generally can only talk about Palestinians. They actually do not care.
3. Arabs do not care about what Pakistanis have to say. For them we are irrelevant. How can we solve their problems for them?
4. Ummah feelings ought to be applied to our own home first. Case in point: baluchistan.
5. While we have Mullahs and Nationalists braying against democracy and institutionalism all across the Muslim world, what hope is there for development and future? How can you solve problems when you have no frame-work for addressing them to begin with?

Your "KASH" is a delusion that people use to ignore own problems. It is just an escape fantasy and it feeds a mind-set that is divorced from reality. Such people are liable to pine for a Salahuddin without realizing that there is no alternative to cultivating forebearance and ethic of hard work. Do you know the importance of sweat and how it saves blood?

You are right of what happen in the Middle East crisis, so are you suggesting, we should cancel JF-17 project to focus the problems on our people's mentality or lack of education?

can anyone please tell me what is going on with the third squadron. from about march we have been hearing that either third squadron has been in secret or about 47 or 48 JF17s are produced and third squadron will be raised anytime. No news till now. What actually is going on with it?

It seems that unless enough staff and pilots are trained we wouldnt see the third squardon raised

but weren't the first two squadrons raised without it? Oscar said that second squadron is still not fully combat ready

Whatever gave you that idea? I have been following this project since 1994. Why would I want it cancelled? It is a damn good plane for us and given the resource constraint under which we operate, it is a gem. But it is not the best out there of course, and that is sort of the point of the whole project. We started out knowing we would not be creating a super duper weapon system.

I would not confuse defense needs and vital social services. We need to manage as best we can. But why continue this line of thought? This is JF-17 thread.

raising two squardons was urgent due to aging Q-5
Plus raising those squardons will help to train more pilots

The second squadron is combat ready, but it is also serving as the OCU for JF-17s.

Pilot training in progress and selection of which squadron is to be replaced.

Unfortunatley, the intellectual level of Pakistani minister being interviewed is well known.

Yup, no doubt in that. Still i guess this particular mistake was in reporting by the media! I wonder if you have any idea how pathetic they get sometime (most of the times in fact)
Bus NEWS BREAK karnay ka chackar mein sb taabah kr dytay han!

Refueling probe! Yes, it is expected to be completely integrated by end of 2013/ early 2014. It is reported that ground trials of refueling probe have been completed so we may see some planes flying with this for trials and evaluation purpose. Once clearing is given it will equip Blk-II JFT!

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has successfully completed ground tests on mid-air refuelling probes fitted to its Chengdu Aerospace Corporation/Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft and expects to carry out the first mid-air refuelling by the end of the summer, the service's chief has told IHS Jane's .

Air Chief Marshall Tahir Rafique Butt said in a 6 June interview at the PAF's headquarters in Islamabad that the addition of the refuelling capability to the JF-17 will improve prospects for international sales of the aircraft, which is jointly produced by China and Pakistan. "The ground tests have been very successful.
Pakistani JF-17 to start mid-air refuelling by end of summer - IHS Jane's 360

the 3rd sqn is slated to replace a mirage sqn at PAF masroor. the infrastructure (ground facilities) are being updated to service the JFT. the question is will the JFT sqn be a air superiority or a maritime strike sqn.

Masroor is home to Rose mirages, don't understand why they should be replaced first?

You wont be seeing the real status of Pakistan armed forces weapon acquisitions after the attacks on PNS mehran, kamra etc etc. to keep the bases safe and secret. I bet the third squadron is already operational. Dont Believe me ? Think for a minute.
