For the engine, somebody already posted this link some time ago at some thread which i don't remember:

"When asked if the JF-17 Block III will be powered by the new and more powerful Russian RD-93MA engine (modernized version of the RD-93 that equips the current Thunder) or the Chinese Guizhou WS-13, the answer was… neither.

PAC confirmed that for now there are no plans to change the propulsion plant of the JF-17, which will use the same model as the previous Thunder blocks."

may be why ordered 30 planes, which also lead us to 2023-24 (probably a time for engine availability) when we may see new engine equipped planes coming in from number 31 onward after completion of current batch?
Then why PAF as has ordered 93MA version?

Just one question.

Incase of a block 1 or block 2 crash/attrition, do the replacement will be filled with the latest available block, like in JF17 case, its block 3 now ? or some extra block 1 or 2 plane will be used to complete the squad since other planes in the squad do not have block 3 thunders.

My question is how the already low power RD 93 will provide juice for aesa and the extra sensors on block 3?

Yup, the little blue pill, and what else?
Because Thrust to weight ratio was already bad I JF-17. Now the same engine will also have to provide for AESA and more.

Though weight reduction improves available power, but now all FBW and new sensors and AESA.... I think it wd compromise speed/performance by using all the equipment. So energy management protocals will be there to optimise performance on pilot input. Also, I believe PAF wd done something for network centric warfare so that ZDK-03 can guide even PL-15 so that JFs don't have to use radar most of the time. Anyway, the tactics will evolve if detection/awareness is preferred over perfromance.

Also, I think there are mini and micro fuel cells. If they get maturity and are commercialised, they give best power to weight ratio and solve added power issue.

Was this intake there for B2? May be exit for it... Better @The Eagle can point out.

Only on Block-III and permanent air intake in attached picture.


I can see two sensors (or hinge) above dragchute lid. The black rectangle can be to detect IR homing.

There is a lot of room for newer installations. These placements will appear by the time when we see clear pictures. Previously these two points on each side were allocated for MAWS but now being shifted to upper location. New sensors are in as they suits.

Bro.. that can be the point to attach fueling probe?
This is the directional light. Probe will be near cockpit. As highlighted in red.
