JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

This should lay to rest the argument that Block I and II aircraft can't be upgraded with an AESA.
I think the argument was that block 1 and 2 can be upgraded to block 3 with AESA. Some of us believe it cannot be while others believe it can. The talk is that without modifications the liquid cooled AESA cannot be fitted in to block1&2. Hlwever an air cooled AESA may be a possibility. I have also counter argued that with network centric force do we really need to get an AESA on all the JFT or can we get by with the PD radars as long as there is a mix of PD and AESA in the package.

The cost of upgrade to BLK III is a big issue...

Everyone always says cost cost cost.
Engine engine engine

No one knows that paksitan is doing the upgrade. Will do the upgrades and has to do the upgrades. Regardless of cost. The nations survival depends on a strong airforce

If the cost of upgrade to BLK III is close to that of producing a new BLK III, what is your choice?
People are speculating that the reason why Asea wont be fitted to block 1 or 2 because there is a differnet is air frame. Yet no one has said there is any difference in airframe.

BLK I/II have to be upgraded for sure, but it is not necessary to be the same as BLK III.

Unless we have net centric capacity then they will have to be upgraded to blk3. Or else they will be at a disadvantage against indian fighters. With blk3 we can out gun India's best at greater range
You also can producing more BLK III with the limited updgrade of BLK I/II.
And the budget is alway not enough to every country...

Pakistan isn't even going to fly all the latest Thunder B in Block-III configuration. Only half of the ships will be in Block-III configuration and the rest in Block-II.
This shows that PAF is quite happy with Block-II and is in no rush to convert Block-II to Block-III if at all.

Where did you get this from?

Alan warnes article...in which he contemplated what he learnt from paf top brass about thunder B
Well pakistan will fly what it needs to Alan warns is a journalist and not a specialist in air combat or tactics

True but he knows what he is saying because he heard that directly from the source..
As of now there are no immediate plans to convert block II into III.

We have no idea if there are plans for block 2 to block 3. No one has spoken of this. So it's just speculation. Besides pakistan says little
