Iraq needs to develop its air force with at least 250 4.5 generation planes and yes with attack helicopters and new tanks

No point in 250 Aircrafts for the next decade or up till 2025 developing the Nation and Economy as a whole plus purchase of mostly smart weapons and establishing in house development complex. I keep telling countries should invest in low cost high tech weapons would fairy like to see Iraq invest in Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missiles, ALCM, SAMs Systems, AEW&C, MPAs.

Beside this deal, Iraq is currently negotioating a second deal for fighter planes ( probably SU 30 MKK ), I doubt it is in this deal.

IMO,Iraq should go for Su-35, it's believed that Su-35 is the best 4++ jet in the world, and it's better than F-15,at least on paper.

It seems like a air superiority fighter to me.

Currently Iraq has a deal for 24 F16s delivery in early 2014, total 36 f16s delivery in 2018.
The US is too slow that is why I think they will drop the plan for 96 F16s.

After all 96 fighterplanes is way too little to cover all that area.

This is how it works, they share the GDP over all ministries and they have to do their job, you cannot do build infrastructure for 5 years and forget defence all along.
Everything has to be done at the same time, in the ME its quite important to have some defence.

Considering it's a cheaper plane that advanced F-15 variants (Russian equipment in general are cheaper than American ones), an initial number of 15-20 would be enough for Iraq, given it has already bought F-16 which is a great and affordable multirole fighter itself.It can be increased later.
Iraq doesn't have any imminent enemy right now, so there is nothing threatening it with war,at least right now.

No AMRAAMs no Thankyou this should have been the stance. AIM-7 Sparrow is an on fast paced basis out going phase out missiles, it was weapon of choice in 50's-90's the type of money-oil Iraq has they should have been tough with US, i would not buy any story that it is a great start, no for a great start SU-30/Rafale would have been nice.

Thanks for above brother.

I tallied up 121 aircraft. All Transport and Reconnaissance requirements are pretty much met. Insha'Allah, the acquisition of F-16 fighter aircraft next year will return the pride of the Iraqi Air Force.

No

The US has not allowed AIM 120 amraam or AIM 9X to Iraq.
Instead they sell us AIM 7 and 1 generation behind 9X.
Thats why Iraq is going to Russia.

These f16s will only be able to attack Syrian and Iranian warplanes because the US will probably configure the electronic systems to detect Turkish, Jordanian and GCC air forces as friendly.
( Don't take this politically, just saying its close to useless when it comes to comparing to neighbours )..

Terrorism today, in the future not sure, the ME is too unstable and it will take years before these fighters will be in service so its better to start arming now.
