Iran develops own version of Russian S-300|Middle East|chinadaily.com.cn

A senior Iranian military commander announced Tuesday that Iran is developing its own version of the Russian S-300 air defense system, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
Commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, Farzad Esmaili, told Fars that the country's experts have removed the flaws and defects of the Russian S-300 anti-aircraft missile system and have started designing and building an Iranian version of the missile system, dubbed as "Bavar-373".
The Iranian commander did not elaborate further on the details of the Iranian product.
Iran and Russia signed a contract for the S-300 system in 2007. In September 2010 Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree banning shipments to Iran of the weapons and equipment listed in the UN resolution.
In August, Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi, the Iranian ambassador to Moscow, said Tehran filed suit against Russia in the International Court for Moscow's refusal to supply Iran with the missile defense systems.
Sajjadi insisted that the S-300 shipment does not fall under the resolution, which prohibits the sale of conventional weapons, including missiles, tanks, military helicopters, warplanes and warships, to Iran.

Likely Iran will need 4-5 years if they invest enough engineers to develop a S300 similar system derrived from S200 models they have at their disposal

Its just matter of engineers and research time and testing

Yeah, probably it would need billions of dollars in investment and thousands of engineers and scientists. Not an easy task by any measure.

It's interesting to note the contrasting styles of the Israelis and Iranians. The Israelis reveal nothing, even after news breaks publicly...the Iranians on the other hand have apparently pulled together a army to take down the whole middle east all on its own. I can understand a part of it is to create some sort of deterrence against possible US or Israeli aggression, but such tactics of exaggeration often times fail miserably and further demoralize the nation in the face of defeat.
If the Iranians kept their "advancements" to themselves, they would atleast be able to employ some sort of surprise in a war...touting their products as competitors of top military hardware, not only make them look delusional, but also puts a bigger target on their back. Keep talking guys, one day the Israelis will bomb all the R & D sites to hell and the Iranians will be able to do nothing.

Not really probably 8,000 highly educated people can make S300 like project , Iran is known for engineering and research

 They don't buy stuff only they learn how it operates and make it their own with innovation

As for billions they already own billions

But then why did Iran came up with a vintage F-5.

As i know Iran always keeps about %30 of her achievement in secret.

Iran first priority was missile system, but after some development in missile system and when they made sure their have enough deposit of missile to defend country , recently they focus own airplane. hopefully we will see better warplane later from Iran

Not true , one of the reasons why Hezzbollah got Israeli tanks was because they put up more than needed information about the tank on the internet.

However , as an Indian i too feel the Govt should be secretive like China , though we'd be accused of having sinister motives and a destabilizing South Asia.

most of information on Internet is amateur information, the reason Hezb Allah got the tanks is they kept secret their weapons

The problem is that Iran only invests 0.6% of its GDP in research and development. By comparison US invests something like 2.5% of its GDP despite US economy being more than 24 times larger than Iran's. Israel invests 4.5% of its GDP. It all depends on funding the projects and having scientists and engineers being supervised by capable managers.
