Can't stop laughing... its like comparing huge Su-27 with small F-35..... HQ-9 might have greater range but LR-SAM is two generation ahead. Anyone anyday will pick LRSAM over HQ9. there is generations of gaps.

Not to mention the price tag for Ins Kolkata which is reportedly 3 times 052D's。
IN does need to cut down the foreign contents in its ships。

I will answer in 5 points
1. INS Kolkata is not underpowered. It carries 16 brahmos missiles that can be used for both land attack and anti ship warfare. To give you an idea it maintains mach 2.8 at all levels of fligtht something klub or yj 18 can do only for 40 km. Also the LRSAM can stop dead such a missile 500m away from ship. The MF STAR adds unprecedented situational awareness.
2. The 32 Load on the INS Kolkata of Barak 8 is more thqn enough for AAW as it gives protection against P 800 class Ashm and jet fighters upto 70 km range. The Horizon and Type 45 carry 48 SAM but have 32 Aster 30 and 16 Aster 15 as weapons load. The Aster 15 is for point defence. Even Type 052D carries 32 HHQ 9 SAM in fore VLS and 16 YJ 18 and 16 CY 5 ASW rocket in aft VLS. Point defence is done by FL 3000 and 1 X CIWS. INS Kolkata can use Barak 8 but the AK 630 can easily handle subsonic missiles and lgb bombs.
3. For all the critics of P 15B sorry but Barak 8 VLS load is now atleast 48 as section between fore 16 cell barak 8 has been part of a bigger VLS sections as per photos of late 2013 released last month. This matches the model tender specifications of 2013 and in new one it says 64 Barak 8 SAM!
4. To all Indians why listen/reply to Pakistani trolls, their navy has enough money to only induct missile boats without SAM systems. Please don't even give them half a cent worth of appreciation, their "aukaad" is on debt even there.

Launched in 2006. Inducted more than 8 years later. Radar is Israeli. Missiles are Israeli. Engine is American. Not a timeline to show for. Type 052D took less than 2 years from launch to induction and is all Chinese.
Type 055 is a whole generation ahead of Kolkata and is coming next year

You can stil be rivals but still appreciate/commend an achievement from a rival country. Geez this is what I dont like in this forum. Members here always try to denigrate/criticise any achievement whatsoever by their rival country. Ive seen it with vietnamese/filipinos/Indians against China, Pakistan/bengladesh(and to my surprise even Chinese) against India, Russians against the west/U.S, turkish/Saudi Arabia against Iran, Palestinians and some Muslims against Israel, etc etc......
We are in a discussion forum to learn and exchange ideas. If members here can see past their bias for their own country/indulge in personal attacks then this forum will be pointless, since I have noticed that there are several members here who are so biased that they will never agree with a point that is counter/against their own imaginary/perceived belief(even when they know they are in the wrong. Especially when that point doesnt favour their country or is from a rival country member. as an example if I make comments that are critical of india, japan or U.S some members from these countries label me chinese/Pakistan etc. Same when I make comments critical to China/Russia/Pakistan etc they accuse me of being a brainwashed westerner or indian or whatever. I just dont understand this logic at times. I can be British and still criticize my country if I think theres a fair reason to do. I always try and be honedst in my comments on here ( though personzlly I might be biased towards my country). Its only in doing so that you earn respec, honesty and can learn from others/have a proper constructive arguments.
I believe we are adults and can at least be polite, honest and considerate towards others when making a point.
Thankfully there are a few sane members here like nihonji, chinese dragon, and leveragedbuyout who I admire/respect for their constructive views. Hope other members will be more tolerant.

Observe the second photo in the url I have attached above, the first two trenches are for brahmos vls , with each carrying 16 rounds.
In the third elongated slit, the vls module is for barak 8.
Now look at the backside of the ship, you will see two small trenches that look like nostrils which are barak 8 rounds. There is place for 2 X 8 vls cells for barak 8 here.
But the third trench is considerably longer giving rise to theory that it is for 32 cells.
This is affirmed by the tender for a model of P 15B issued by MDL sometime in October 2013. In fact there is link in that very url that confirms this fact.

The cost ballooned becuz of Bureaucratic hurdles which were caused by the previous inept govt & even then the costs are not so much,the costs will further go down due to increase content from our side,modular construction.Kolkata has 80% Ingenious content,out of the 3 services Navy is far ahead in the process of inducting home grown things.
