It’s not possible to compete with PLAN, ship to ship and submarine to submarine.

India can and should have a credible deterrence with decent firepower to deter PLAN in IOR. The current carrier strength is bare minimum with no leeway for unforeseen technical glitches or breakdowns.
Three would give that flexibility and one odd more would give some more breathing space for multiple contingencies.

We don’t want to challenge PLAN anywhere else, except regions of our concern, which is basically Indian Ocean Region. We want to develop adequate DETTERENCE to make PLAN worry against any misadventure.
