I saw this as the biggest takeaway from the just concluded US Presidential visit. If it happens, Modi ji has cemented his place in history.

Even if India and the US join forces, China still retains its veto. Where is the problem?

Even there, India has historically forged its own path. And we have the Russians in the mix as well.

Simply put, India is too big, and now too powerful militarily, to ignore any longer. Yes, economically, there is still a ways to go. But you cannot have a nuclear power, a top 3 military force, a nation with 1/6th of humanity, not on a strategic world security council.

Same reason you stated India as a nuclear power, why not vote Pakistan to be a member of P5, Pakistan also a nuclear arm state, Pakistan population per country size is as big as India, Pakistan military not a superpower but powerful enough to fight in any war to protect their sovereignty.

That's not going to happen any time soon. You need all permanent members to agree. China will veto it without blinking an eye.

Except for some brownie points, becoming a permanent member means zilch.
