What's new

india receives first of 4 new 15b class destroyers

world-class? If the Calcutta class comes to East Asia, it will retire and hand it over to the coast guard to hunt down smuggling ships.

It is too fuel inefficient and low endurance for that. Coast guard won't even find it fit as a training ship.

love the look and feel of this class of destroyer

we have 3 Kolkata class already
this is the first of 3 vizag class
and then we have 13000 tonne project 18 class coming up towards 2027 onwards

Certainly we will need some type 052D destroyers with HQ 9 defence system to counter IN.
10 MPAs
11 Submarines with some good land attack and ship hunting capabilities
2 type 052D destroyers
{4 Jinnah class frigates with CAMM ER
4 type 054 frigates with Hq 16
4 Babar class corvettes with CAMM ER} main battle ships

Will be a very formidable force to counter IN of post 2030.and this is fortunately achievable target

Although China and Turkey have a bad relationship because of the Xinjiang issue. However, in the Turkish bidding, China's HQ9 (all 9 shots hit) still defeated the American Patriot system, European asters 30 and Russian S300, and was selected by Turkey. However, Turkey subsequently put forward requirements for the transfer of technology and the modification of the system to be compatible with the NATO system, resulting in the suspension of the transaction. In 2018, Turkey re selected the Russian S400.
Turkey never claimed that HQ-9 outperformed every other system in its class or it is the best. This is dubious claim from some members here.

HQ-9 is good but not combat tested. WE do not know how it will do against advanced targets. Time will tell.

Barak 8 intercepted Russian Iskander-E in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war on the other hand. This is impressive kill.

That's really a great news today..... Congratulations to Indian Navy and people who built this beast.....

Shameless chest beating bragging.

Then China and US ship building must be out of this world super standard?

You guys don't get it. For Sanghis anything made in Bharat is world-beater class.

Of course most of these clueless slumdogs have never seen anything out of their slums in any case.

in love it when Pakistanis and Bangladeshi posters slate Indian destroyers carriers.nuke subs .

their only answer is ha ha

their navies are fishing boats in comparison... but they mock Indians over massive warships inducted designed in India

hilarious
Welcome back maverick so nice to hear from you, how was the latest ban Did you get some home projects done.

okay this is actually a bad news for us in Pakistan and the naval headquarter should take heed, India does have superior firepower against our 5000 ton frigates. This does give india an edge. the problem is that we are not India’s only enemy and the dragon’s navy outclasses this ship both in numbers and firepower. So if the entire Indian navy was deployed against Pakistan it would bean irritant at best because in order to do any real damage these ships would have to come 300 kms of Karachi and would be sunk way before they can offload anything. Pakistan on its Part will have 4 type 54 drivers along with 11 subs and sea sultan not to mention our surface to
Sea missiles which are in huge numbers

MDL Delivers “Visakhapatnam” – First P15B Destroyer to Indian Navy
Indian shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) delivered the first P15B Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG) to the Indian Navy on 28 October 2021 in Mumbai.

Visakhapatnam is the first of four vessels on order for the Indian Navy. The first-in-class ship was laid down in October 2013 and launched in April 2015. It was followed by the future INS Mormugao which was launched in September 2016. The third destroyer, Imphal, was launched in April 2019. The fourth and final vessel of the class will be Porbandar which is expected to be launched next year. All four destroyers are being built at MDL. Visakhapatnam is set to be commissioned in December 2021.

AatmaNirbhar Bharat is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making India a self-reliant nation.

The Project 15B (P15B) / Visakhapatnam-class is the latest destroyer design currently under construction for the Indian Navy. These ships have been designed indigenously by the Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Design, New Delhi. Each ship spans 163 metres in length and 17.4 metres at beam and displaces 7,300 tonnes. These ships will be propelled by four gas turbines to achieve speed in excess of 30 knots.

Visakhapatnam is the first P15B Destroyer for the Indian Navy. Indian Navy picture.

According to the Indian Navy, the P15B destroyers incorporate new design concepts for improved survivability, sea keeping, stealth and maneuverability. Enhanced stealth features have been achieved through shaping of hull and use of radar transparent deck fittings which make these ships difficult to detect. The design around the bridge area appears to be main design change compared to the preceding Kolkata-class. P15B ships will be equipped to carry and operate two multi-role helicopters.

The Visakhapatnam-class shares several sensor and weapon systems with its preceding design, the Kolkata-class (Project 15A) of destroyers: The IAI EL/M-2248 MF-STAR S-band AESA multi-function radar, Thales LW-08 D-band air search radar, BEL HUMSA-NG bow sonar are fitted on both classes. Like Project 15A, the Project 15B will be fitted with 32x Barak 8 surface to air missiles (launched from VLS cells) as well as 16 BrahMos anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles.

While the Visakhapatnam-class was initially set to receive a 127mm main gun (by BAE Systems), the main gun is finally similar to that of the Kolkata-class: 76mm by Leonardo.

Looks like an achievement to be honest. Nothing to make fun of.

Your writing skills are such that you are able to turn a serious topic into a comedy show.

The link you shared is not working by the way.

He keeps on using that word "indengious" in multiple posts.

Like other back-office Sanghis keep on claiming, I guess this is Indian world-beater "genius" talent at work, that no other nation has.

Could you tell me how many million tons of warships India has exported in the last 10 years?

You are under the impression that people will pay money to buy Naval ships made in India. Maybe to nations which do not have shipbuilding.

These guys come to us to build cargo ships, even little ones that displace 10,000 DWT or so.

Also do tell us how much you lag behind in Europeans & the Americans in fighters, as your share of the civilian airliner market is negligible.

Since you brought it up, China has THREE (yes THREE) civilian airliner projects in motion (all by COMAC).

Their latest in production is a 787 widebody equivalent (C929), metal cutting has commenced.

ARJ regional jet (MD-88 equivalent) is already in service. Narrow-body Single Aisle C919 model is near-airline-ready.

These are meant to service China domestic air travel market (because FAA a$$holes will never approve China-made airplanes for sale overseas). Which is fine, China has a thriving market all within its borders.

China also has an Airbus narrow-body (A320 series) assembly plant in Tianjin and also a B737NG assembly point.

Indian-made airliners? Only in dreams (not even any in remote concept or planning). Embarrassing.

Stop boasting - will you? This is getting more and more pathetic by the minute. You are not talking to a bunch of ignorant slum-Sanghis in India.

Your Modi has dragged your economy down to a level lower than Bangladesh, for Allah's sake.

"A" for your spunk and gusto though.....

Delusional Indian idiots online think the HQ-9 is a joke and their Barak is better.

" The HQ-9 system also reportedly tested well, exhibiting a capability to engage cruise missiles on a par with that of the Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Patriot system, and potentially a longer range for conventional air targets than the Patriot and Eurosam Aster 30 systems. Chinese media sources also reported that although the HQ-9 system has a shorter range than the Russian system, it has a faster response time (15 seconds) and it hit all nine of its targets in trials. "

"The Diplomat" is a well-known Indian defence-related propaganda site masquerading as a magazine promoting "peace". The writers are mostly Indians or fake Western names. This is my impression. Look at their editor in large, Ankit Panda. It is an open secret that Indian Govt. sponsors this site. Most of their articles are anti-China and pro-India in content, but they sprinkle in anti-BJP content too, to appear 'legit'.

The thread, if you aren't aware is about the P15B class destroyer.

Please do tell me about how the US- with a negligible share of commercial shipbuilding- is capable of building something like the Ford-class supercarrier.

Also do tell us how much you lag behind in Europeans & the Americans in fighters, as your share of the civilian airliner market is negligible.

Airbus and Boeing both source components from China and have assembly in China too. COMAC already has a regional airliner project done and a narrow body project almost done.

If India has the same then hats off to India but I have not found any evidence that India has even a single Boeing or Airbus supplier.

Turkey never claimed that HQ-9 outperformed every other system in its class or it is the best. This is dubious claim from some members here.

As far as I know, the technical evaluation was very close to others. Russia participated in the tender with the S-300 variant, but the gave financially disadvantageous bid as well as technical difficulties. The US, on the other hand, did not give congressional guarantees on Patriot systems. At the end of the tender, it was decided to start negotiations with the Chinese system and it was announced that the second best offer was SAMP-T. The most important detail here is that this tender has many sub-working areas in terms of technical, financial, sustainability and operative aspects.

It was said by the Turkish authorities that the HQ-9 system won the tender because it would provide advantages such as increasing technological capacity and accelerating domestic production capability, rather than technical competence issues (This is not a criticism of the Chinese system by the way). Although Chinese sources do not confirm this technology transfer requirement, all statements on the Turkish side were related to this from the very beginning. The Turks had always preferred to read the Chinese choice from this aspect. Another issue was the ease of financing. However, as technical obstacles could not be overcome (and of course as a result of intense foreign political pressure), the signing phase could not be reached. As a result, the tender was canceled in its entirety. The project was shelved without taking any concrete steps in the second-ranked SAMP-T system.

You know what happened next, the S-400 system was purchased without a tender. Meanwhile, more concrete steps were taken in ongoing projects in Turkey. (and the USA manipulated this process correctly and started sanctions against Turkey under CAATSA and even excluded it from the JSF program.) However, due to the risk factors that Turkey has, its urgent need still continues. Last week, announced that concrete steps will be taken on Samp-T also, as well as the second S-400 system. As we understand from this statement, there is no shortening of the project schedule foreseen for the SIPER project.

In this case, it is an important anecdote to choice SAMP-T instead of HQ-9.
