India become No 1 ICC ODI rankings

Mate, no criteria is perfect and all methodologies in the world get questioned. But till a better one which is globally acceptable, comes along the prevailing one is the standard which everyone is measured on. That way, one can also argue that the format of world cup is not the best format to judge who should be the world champion.. But then, it is what it is...

Criteria is not perfect but it should have a probability of minimal error ...unlike make you smash your head with something out of the blue

Forget analysts, even I have abused Indian cricket team more in last couple months than I did in last few years.. But there is an objective methodology that is followed for ICC rankings.. Its not a random wish of a few officials that decide those (Like a MoM which i believe should have been Saeed Ajmal) ...And that methodology is consistent over last few years..So just because India become # 1 in that ranking, if you start questioning that, you just look lame.. Specially when there is no such criticism of ranking criteria when a Pakistani gets the best ODI bowler ranking or Pakistan goes past India in ICC test rankings

Check out Pakistani bowlers record and their wickets and Pakistans performance in test matches for last 3 years or so ...we clean swept the same team against which your team failed miserably ...we won a series against NZ and SL too ...in last some years the only series we lost was against SL in SL ...and compared it to yours team..doesnot it make sense unlike india's odi ranking

So can you find any errors in the calculations? I am sure the calculation logic is for all to see and examine. Which part of that logic does not seem right to you?

For those who are still butt hurt about India's rankings, do you guys even know how it works? It takes into account LAST 3 YEARS of performance, most recent year being the most significant and so on.

Here are some excerpts of the rule....

1. What is a rating?
A rating is worked out by dividing the points scored by the matches played, with the answer given to the nearest whole number.
After every ODI, the two teams each receive a certain number of points, based on a mathematical formula. Each team's new points total is then divided by its new matches total to give an updated rating. With batting averages, if you are dismissed in your next innings for more than your average, your average will increase. Conversely, scoring less than your average will cause it to fall. Similarly, under the Reliance ODI Championship method, the points awarded for a win will always be more than the rating the team had at the start of the match.
Equivalently, a team losing an ODI will always score fewer points than its rating. So a win will always boost a team's rating and a defeat will harm it.
The ratings therefore give extra meaning to what might otherwise be regarded as 'dead rubbers'.

2. What does a particular rating signify?
A team that over the period being rated wins as often as it loses while playing an average mix of strong and weak opponents will have a rating of close to 100. A rating of 100 could also correspond to a side that wins more often than it loses but who has generally played more matches against weak teams.
Similarly, if the majority of its matches are against strong teams, then a rating of 100 could be achieved despite having more defeats than victories.
3. How quickly do ratings change?
The amount by which a rating improves after winning an ODI will depend on the rating of the opponent. A win over a much stronger team (i.e. one with a much higher rating) boosts the rating more than beating a much weaker opponent. Conversely, losing to a much stronger team will not cause the rating to drop too far, but losing to a weaker side would.
4. What period does the table cover?
The table reflects all ODIs played since August more than two years ago. This pattern is repeated each August, with the oldest of the three years of results removed to be gradually replaced with results of matches played over the following twelve months. Thus once a year, the rankings will change overnight without any new ODIs being played. This process, called updating the data, takes place at the start of August each year. This time has been chosen since it is usually a relatively quiet time in the ODI calendar.

Based on this criteria, in the last 3 years, the ACTUAL results are....

its the work of relative authorities to see whats going wrong.... my point was based upon the recent performance of indian team ...they lost , lost and then it took them just two matches win to top the chart .....anyhow leave it

how can 2013s ranking depend upon the record of 2010 and 11 ....the stats are good coz india performed well in 2011 but then past is a past the reality is they dont have that well record in 2012 plus its 2013 now so why you are jumping on stats that dont show you the true picture?

atleast you have some sense unlike others who instead of being rational either are saying we own icc or facts that dont make sense ...its all well with that ...you admitted your mistake... its good enough reason for me to forget that part :)

So you win one series and you think you have conquered the planet. You guys are a joke!

haha lets see who is a joke the people who hvent brag about the last series they won instead just mentioned it as a reference point or those who are still banking upon some 2007 and 2011 thing not only banking but bragging senselessly just to twist facts and hide their poor performance .....

why its so hard for you to accept facts ........few days back same people were abusing dhoni and team for loosing loosing and loosing and now same are turning their eyes away from facts just to justify something that doesnot seem to be pragmatic enough to rely upon

Frankly, as an unbiased fan, Pakistan is better than India in tests atm. No two ways about it. Our batting/ bowling and defensive mentality sucks in tests.

But in ODIs , even though we lost 1-2 to you guys, over the last 3 years, we are way better than Pakistan. Infact, people are saying we lost to 6th ranked team and now no.1. Well, I would say, yeah we lost to Pakistan, but beat the no.1 team England back to back. So its kinda balancing act. Also, Sa lost to a poor Kiwi team. So Indians should actually thank New Zealand :woot:
