IAF to deomstrate gears up for Iron First at Pokhran

February 22, 2013 would witness the Indian Air Force demonstrate its operational capabilities by day, dusk and night at the sprawling facility of the Pokharan Range, the largest air –to-ground weapons firing range for training in delivery of heavy armament, near Jaisalmer, in the arid Rajasthan Sector in an Exercise named – The Iron Fist.
Showcasing more than 30 types of platforms and Weapons Systems amounting to a participation of over 200 aircraft, this Fire Power Display will demonstrate the day and night employability of air power by frontline fighter aircraft of the IAF including - Su-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, Jaguar, MiG-21,MiG-27, MiG-29 and Hawks. The transport aircraft would include – C130J, AN-32, Embraer and IL-76, while Mi-8, Mi-17 V5, Mi-17 1V and Mi-35 Attack Helicopters will constitute the Rotary Wing ingredients.
Being a display of armament delivery skills by pilots at the end of their training year, the exercise also aids commanders and planners to gain better insight into the potential and deployment capabilities of aerial weapons.
The IAF would also be showcasing, for the first time, its Surface to Air Missile Systems and its latest aircraft Pilatus PC-7 Mk II. The events at - Iron Fist intend to display various aspects of Fire Power like- Air Defence Operations, Counter Surface Force Operations, Urban Warfare and Combat Search Rescue Operations.
Light Combat Aircraft and Light Combat Helicopter, two of the most prestigious indigenous projects would also form a part of the display. In addition, IAF's Parajumping Team, Akash Ganga, IAF's Air Warrior Drill Team and Air Warrior Symphony Orchestra would also perform.
Aimed at providing the nation the reassurance that the IAF will deliver whenever called upon, a demonstration of this magnitude is being carried out for the first time by day, dusk and night. Very few air forces in the world can achieve this feat.

What is the range of Su-30MKI without fuel tanks?

What is the range of Su-30MKI with fuel tanks?

How far Su-30MKI can go and come back?

Thanks

The Su-30MKI has a range of 3,000 km with internal fuel which ensures a 3.75 hour combat mission and with arial refueling system the flight duration increases up to 10 hours with a range of 8,000 km

The Indian game plan is to have a massive cavalry and armor push through the deserts and try to cut pakistan in two.
Thus they gave the name Iron Fist.

LoL @ Iron Fist ... the Indians are clever with the name picking.

but I think Pakistan stole the show already by testing two missiles in this week which are targeted PRECISELY for Indian cavalry charge.

BTW, the Sukhois and Rafales will have to do a bit more hard work. the short range but accurate plutonium tipped missiles are designed to take the forward operational bases out and to wipe out armor colums.

Is this range one sided?

So can Su-30MKI go from India, do a mission in Israel (support mission lets say), and come back at base? Or the range of 3000km is 'one-sided'? (That is, Su-30MKI can go to Israel and do mission..but then it would have to land in Israel/Arabia for refueling etc)?

Hope it clears my question a bit more...

With mid air refueling, it can fly for more than 10 hours, so your answer would be yes.

So Pakistan attack inside Indian land with nuclear weapons and Indian fighters wait for it and your side will survive from second strike and achieve air superiority, this is what you want to say? :what:

what i want to say

1. PA had a good idea of upcoming indian exercise; PA trolled India in advance.

2. the multibillion dollar investment bt IAF to gain first strike capabilities and maintain superiority are kinda dashed now.

3. Indian planning of cold start by maintaining and playing withint the low thresholds is also dashed.

4. MAD is ensured from the word GO !

5. You are not intelligent because you couldn't understand any of it and required me to tutor you.

a) yes of course Pakistan army might have an Idea about the exercise.

b) Explain how our multi billion dollar investment was dashed? Pakistan lobbied with the french not to sell us Rafales? Or stop avionics for Mirage 2000 N

C) Tactical or Strategic, Nuclear strike on Indian forces will be responded with a nuclear strike.

Yes of course all Pakistan major military bases are within 200 Kms from the Indian border I agree with you.

With mid-air refuelling, the Indian Su-30 MKI can enter Pakistani airspace from its Western borders from the Afghanistan-side,where the air-defence is weak, sucessfully bombard and then come back.

"Why So Risk?", India has an air base in Tajikistan :azn:

The MKI are not stationed there. We have Mig-29s there. But Mig-29 has a limited range and endurance. While the Mig-29 can play the role of an escort, the Su-30MKI will be able to deliver huge payload, play the ground attack role.

God forbid,if we are in a situation of a full scale war with Pakistan,we can engage them in their Eastern front, while enter from the Western side. There will hardly be any resistance,as most of the Pakistani jets will be flying sorties in the Eastern border.

Apart from that the Naval aviation is always there to bomb Karachi.

But then again,I would not prefer any war.It puts lot of load on the economy, among other things.

are you hallucinating, so just by being a viewer to a exercise you got the whole idea for defeating a nation? By that logic I have seen red flag exercises videos, what should I be capable of?
