3,21,695 people, between the age of five and older, speak Telugu and 280,867 speak Punjabi at home while Bengali and Tamil speakers number 2,59,204 and 2,38,699 respectively.

Hindi is nowhere. yet Indian gov asks Consul generals to read indep day messages in Hindi. When I objected to it in the 1990s, The consul general (a non-Hindi man) told me that it was the directive from external affairs ministry

"Indian" function play only Hindi songs. Look at indep day parade in nyc, all hindi domination. nyc mayor issues greetings in hindi because indian gov propagates hindi is india's language

The unifying language of India is English. It’s England that unified it. And Indians are proud that English is the official language.

So much so that Indians point out that one advantage of India over China is its English speaking population.

There is a flaw here,
People having Hindi as mother tongue are very less, In a diverse country like India, people speak Hindi to communicate with others, So it seems Hindi has large user base in India

However when the common mean of communication is English (E.g. in US / UK), then people donot focus on learning third language,
A Rajasthani will learn English and Marwari
A Himachali will learn English and Himachali
A Pahadi (Uttarakhand) will learn English and Garwahli / Kumauni
A Bihari will learn English and Maithali
A Eastern UP person will learn English and Bhojpuri
A Gujrati will elarn English and Gujrati
A MP person will learn English and Bundelkhandi or Malvi

In India all these states are termed as Hindi states and It seems Hindi is the mother tongue of most

AnD Indian constitution is in English. English version of a particular law is the authoritative version. Over Hindi or any regional language if there are ambiguity.

not only an unifying language , but it also connects them to the world and gives them the passport to escape to developed countries.

Indians should thank Tamilnadu's anti Hindi agitation in 1965 which forced India to retain English as an official language indefinitely

Indian constitution was drafted by Indians from all parts of India but who were educated by the British in English. So its only natural that it was drafted in English.

Its the same reason the Constitution of US is drafted in English and not Spanish or French or Irish.

India is unified by a common culture, values and civilization and not Language. All Indian languages however have roots in SANSKRIT and that is our common root. Not English.

English is the language of Law, Science and Maths and since this is the age of technology, its English that has gained prominence. Which is why even the chinese language is now taught in english and many many chinese aspire to learn english.

Bengalis and Punjabis are hindi speakers in most cases when speaking with any other fellow Indian.

So are Gujarati's, Marathis and Oriya people. Even in Andhra, Telegana and Karnataka, the first language of choice is hindi when it comes to speaking with a non native.

The futile attempt of the poster to alienate Indians from Hindi went down the gutter.

First of all, England colonized and created both US and India. That is why both of us speak English.

That is why South Indians would speak English to communicate with other Indians not speaking the same mother tongue. And nice try on their language originated from SNskrit, not...

Finally, Chinese are not taught using English. One way to help pronouncing Chinese words can be used with Roman Alphabet. But that has nothing to do with English.

I AM a south Indian

And I speak Hindi with a LOT of other Indians. Especially in the streets. English is only used in office and among peers etc. The street lingo is still Hindi.

ALL the south Indian language script is derived from the Sanskrit Brahmi script.

Telugu and Malayalam has the maximum Sanskrit words and grammar, followed by Kannada. Only Tamil has purged itself of sanskrit, because of christian missionary efforts in creating a split.

Don't bother to teach me the roots of my own language

The very fact that the chinese use english to teach chinese language is far more embarrassing. None of the Indian languages uses English in anything remote.

You must be thinking that none Indians have no knowledge about Indian language so you try to pull this kind of crap. Sanskrit is an Indo European language. How about Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil? Which language family do they belong to.

Let to tell you, Sanskrit has more relationship with English than Telugu.

Again, some Chinese schools use Roman alphabet to help kids pronounce Chinese characters. And not all use the same system. It has nothing to do with English. English is the language that created and unified India. Mandarin Chinese is used to unify China. Chinese constitution is written in Chinese and most people do not know English. That is why Dell and Amazon call centers are located in India, not China.

I Know Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil. DO you ?

I know Sanskrit, do you ? I know English and Hindi, so you ?

Spare me the "Dravidian" BS. It was created by a christian missionary Bishop robert caldwell to push the british agenda.

Unlike you, I do not have to use google to know any south Indian language or north Indian languages.

Debating Indian languages with you is like debating quantum physics with a 10 year old how has learn how to use google. LOL.

I don't care why you use english to learn chinese. The limitations of your primitive script is your problem, not mine. Spare me the propaganda.
