Help about Crohn's Disease

I have a friend whose daughter has some sort of defective intestine with some sort of infection from last several years. Her daughter is no 26. Doctors haven't allowed her to marry. They say that she will die if in case they are not able to stop this infection.

The guy works as driver in our office. He doesn't earn much and he was somehow helping his daughter to get better but all these years she didn't get any better. She even had an operation and stayed in coma but somehow survived. He went to each and every doctor he was referred to his friends and colleagues but it seems like no one was able to help him.

Now, a doctor here in Lahore has referred him some sort of injection which may help her to decrease or even stop this infection so she may get some better (just a chance). There are total 14 injections and each one will cost him 1.5 million PKR. This is just a chance and nothing more.

I full upload full medical reports as soon as I get it for those who can help. If someone could help her get some better treatment inside or outside Pakistan inside reasonable budget then it would be appreciable and it may help her to survive.

Dear Faisal,

I've run some searches and have found some datas that might turn useful for you

1.Crohn's India - Timeline | Facebook - the members of this page might be able to help you

2.Lakeshore Hospital in Kerala has a dedicated clinic for this disease, and they do take international patients at reduced rates. I'll try and dig up more hospitals.

I think Indian users here might be able to help this poor girl. India has just started production of a bio-similar by the name of "Infimab". Could any Indian user confirm whether it has hit the market and at what price?

Edit: My understanding is, the patient actually is in good professional hands, the issue seems to be affordability of her medicine. Is this right?
lot of Indian drugs are smuggled into pakistan.. both pakistani govt and medical fraternity knows .. and even prescribes them...not sure how soon though after launch in India.

When you get the report please Vitamin D she has to be deficient in Vitamin D .
Tell her to become 100% vegetarian and take probiotic and multivitamin .
start drinking smoothies a lot.see the different .
Fecal Transplant treatment Ask about it with doctor treating her.

Anyone who can help is welcome. He asked me if I could help him. I have asked him to give me all medical reports. I will get my hands on those medical reports soon. In between, I thought should ask someone else for help too.

Crohn's disease - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are no medications or surgical procedures that can cure Crohn's disease. Treatment options help with symptoms, maintain remission, and prevent relapse. In those newly diagnosed a corticosteroid may be used for a brief period of time to quickly improve the disease with another medication such as either methotrexate or a thiopurine used to prevent recurrence.

Crohn's is associated with an increased intake of animal protein, milk protein and an increased ratio of omega-6 to omega-3polyunsaturated fatty acids. Those who consume vegetable proteins appear to have a lower incidence of Crohn's disease. Consumption of fish protein has no association

Tried changing diet?
Did everything what doctor said. We are trying to get help from our department. In that case, inflaximab will become available. Its taking some time for processing. I read that all before and told her father about all that. We are doing our best. She is weak now.

This is what I got when I was searching for Fecal Transplant treatment.
Another bit of good news is that fecal microbial transplant might help some people, but who the therapy would help requires more research
The same type of information was found on other websites too. So, I think it is just experimental for the time being. But I will forward this information to her doctors.
Thanks for help

I wouldnt be surprised because Crohn's disease is also immune related..

Its an autoimmune/ chronic inflammation disorder. It will have waxing and waning phases. For exacerbation infliximab is helpful but will not cure the patient although there r reports of patients going into complete remission. Surgery wont help either, she already has a partial colectomy fone going by the reports. Infliximab treatment seems to be the only viable option.

May i know your brighter idea for making dumb medical system smart, and free...

Present condition of patient has to be taken into account if she can tolerate medications and surgery, which i suppose must be poor. So we should be very cautious before advising anyone without clinical assessment...

If the docs r advicing infliximab course they must have checked her immune functions. Are u a doctor genius ? The report says status post colostomy so she had a portion of her bowel removed. If u dont have anything worthwhile to add then dont butt in

in socialist societies like cuba or former libyan jamahiriya, medical treatment was free... cuban medical system is among the best in the world... in libya, if medical treatment was available outside of libya, the patient was sent to that country with all costs borne by the libyan state... even so, the medical personnel in libya were highly paid.

this is apart from the various economic welfares within the libyan jamahiriya, which made life easier for the patient, or for any citizen.

from ( The Libya I Once Knew )... status in tripoli, 1979...
Plus, doctors, hospitals and medicines were all for free. Nobody paid for education in a Libyan school and whoever wanted to continue their education outside the country would receive a substantially good scholarship.

The Libyan not willing to work would receive the equivalent salary valued today of $ 7,000 USD per month.

Just to have an idea about Gaddafi's Libya, everything sold was about the same price, $3 USD. There were gigantic supermarkets, but nothing was sold at retail. Anyone wishing to buy rice, for example, would pay $ 3 for the 50 kilo bag. Everything was sold on that basis.

other such things...

Sure they must have and I will prefer them do their job instead of advising something on internet even when asked, just a good reminder for fellow doctors, may be we land up doing more harm than good. Just a general practice i believe is superior for doctors and patients alike. I am extremely sorry if i came across as a genius to you. Just a random medical guy. I hope you will surely forgive me :-). Further more colectomy is mentioned a partial but not the side, does not make much difference but i may have liked to know since indications for colectomy in CD points towards a more serious condition, and i will like to know how patient is doing post colectomy before prescribing further medicaations..:smitten:

One hell of a system i must say. Dont know if condition is as much rosy as it looks on paper. Here in govt hospitals giving things free is a curse. Few months back pts attendent broke a vial of MethylPrednisolone without any remorse since it was free govt suppy but were crying foul when asked to buy a strip of becosule. Giving anything free is not a good idea in my opinion.

@Butchcassidy @Wounded-Monk both of you are wonderful doctors please stop the childish competition. The points both of you raise are valid The treatment is very risky in the condition of the patient it may save her life or cause her death, with no CBC we can not discern infection and the high grade fever mentioned could not bode well for the patient. The call is for the doctor to make who is looking at the patient. personally i would not go for the injections seeing the risks but the call again is for the doctor to make. please keep the debate civil and related to medicine not personal ego

Infliximab, as it is known in Japan and in the United States.
