FM meetings : Peace momentum stalls

I beg to diffr.

I think that the Government of India and its Ministers, Political Leaders etc. have realised that the Indian Public - who vote them into office - are not going to be mollified until there is a "proper" punishment of the Pakistani Terrorists, I agree that they are "Non-State Actors", before India can move ahead to normalise its relations with Pakistan.

The Indian Leadership is thus unable to fulfil Pakistani Leadership's Demands.

As such let us wait and see which way “the ball bounces”.

So what part of my post do you differ with?

BJP wants talks called off, attacks PM, Foreign Minister

New Delhi: The BJP wants the government to call off talks with Pakistan. Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "Why should India talk under pressure. We cannot have talks at any cost. Pakistan has no desire to tackle terrorism."

Briefing newspersons in New Delhi, Prasad also cornered the Prime Minister on his talks with Pakistan in Sharm-el-Sheikh in July 2009. He questioned how Baluchistan was included in the agenda when on Thursday the Indian Foreign Minister in Islamabad said that Pakistan had not provided "even a shred of evidence" of India's involvement in Baluchistan. "We want to ask Prime Minister Manmohan Singh why Baluchistan was included in the declaration in Sharm-el Sheik."

The BJP reiterated that it regrets that as SM Qureshi slammed India's Home Secretary, GK Pillai, at a joint press conference last night, India's Foreign Minister SM Krishna did not defend Pillai.

The Foreign Affairs Minister must explain his silence, Former External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha told NDTV earlier in the day. "He should have contradicted him immediately and set the record straight," said Sinha. (Watch: Krishna should have contradicted Pak FM: Yashwant Sinha)

Pillai's comments, made in an interview to the Indian Express, said that David Coleman Headley, arrested by the US for planning and executing 26/11, had disclosed, "ISI had a much more significant role to play in Mumbai attacks... ISI was literally controlling and coordinating the attacks from the beginning till the end." Headley was interrogated in America recently by Indian officials. Qureshi slammed that remark of Pillai's, describing it as "uncalled for."

Why India is even going for talks???????/

If you have watched that live press conference your all the misconstruction will have gone.

The home secretary was right in his statement and its supported by the David Coleman Headley's interrogation.

And he have stated that in response to a question.

As Pakistan says India's hand in Baluchistan we have the same right if we think that ISI was behind 26/11.

Mogambo i am not blaming our ministers only..Both parties are responsible mate..Do you think they act more mature than this if they genuinely wanted this peace process to be a sucess ..

Pakistan's approach disappointing: Congress

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday voiced disappointment over Pakistan's approach at the Foreign Minister-level talks in Islamabad, saying the "tone and tenor" were negative and accusatory.

The party also dismissed criticism of External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, asserting that he "fulfilled" the mandate on talks with Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi and conducted himself with utmost dignity and restraint.

"Pakistan's tone and tenor at the talks were negative and accusatory," party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, adding this approach was "absolutely disappointing".

The Congress dubbed the statements of Qureshi on Krishna having a limited mandate as "completely unjustified and condemnable".

"I would not look for a certificate by the Pakistan Foreign Minister," another party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said, adding that Qureshi himself was accused by the Pakistan media of catering to domestic constituency.

"Our External Affairs Minister fulfilled the mandate and conducted himself with utmost dignity and restraint while on foreign soil," Natarajan told reporters here.

The Congress also described as ridiculous any attempt by Pakistan to equate Home Secretary G K Pillai's remarks with Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed's anti-India hate speeches.

Qureshi when asked at the joint press conference last night at the end of the talks why Saeed was not being reined in by Pakistan from making anti-India speeches shot back: "I agree that both sides need to create an enabling environment and not let the climate of engagement be vitiated by negative propaganda.

"But, I want to know to what extent did the Indian Home Secretary's statement on the eve of this dialogue help? We both (ministers) are of the opinion that it (Pillai's remarks) was uncalled for."

Natarajan said that the External Affairs Minister himself has said that there was no question of comparing a terror spreading criminal with the Home Secretary.

"Whatever mandate was given to the External Affairs Minister, he carried it in an admirable way...As a party we condemn the statement of the Pakistan Foreign Minister," the Congress spokesperson said.

Asked whether continuing the dialogue with Pakistan was necessary at this point, the spokesperson said, "it has always been our stand that effort should be made to bridge the trust deficit (between India and Pakistan)".

Natarajan, however, added that the talks would be "meaningful" only when acts of terror from Pakistani soil stop and the culprits of 26/11 are brought to justice.Pakistan's approach disappointing: Congress

Yeah thats wat we r asking WHY??? when ur not willing to talk on core issues, so why even bother :agree:

well mate ...........you got to agree that its only issue of Terrorism that India wants to talk because its benefit it.................all others issues benefits Pakistan and we can live with those issues for one more century:bounce:

So if Pakistan wants those issues included just "do more" to curb its non-state actors that creat terrorism in India.

Satisfy India that Pakistan is an Angel...................India will be Angel Lover:bunny:

according to Pakistan all the issue were supposed to be on the table including Kahmir...fine. But I think both India and pakistan has acepted that terrorism is the priority..if that was the case, then there was no need to hurry on the kashmir issue when both the side have agreed on bilateral meetings....if pakistan has raised the issue at this time, then it was clear who was hesitating for the talks to progress.

What about Indian officials claim about Pakistan ISI behind Mumbai attacks during the time of peace process??Do you think its the right time for provocative statements like this..he can raise the issue when the talks was happening rather than commenting it infront of media at a crucial time..we both know,Indian ministers are also good at making those kind of talks just like Pakistan counterparts..

You may be right but what if Pillai knows more than u and me. What if he has concrete info through Headley interrogation that agencies in Pakistan were aware/helping Mumbai carnage.

Whats the point of being naive. I back Krishna when he emphasizes that there is no point of talks untill terror support is stopped.

Swift I am not commenting on the mumbai issue, as an Indian i also want to bring those who behind that attack to Justice..i am talking about the time of that statement..this kind of untimely comments just before the peace talk will upset the mood and will affect the peace talk a lot...

But probably smone was deliberately trying to set the tone of the dialogue.

why we are talking when Pakistan doesnt seems to be doing anything that she can be trusted????????? Is our govt. looking for another kargil or Mumbai????

What foxes me is why India agreed for talks when there were clear signs that Pakistan was only interested in Kashmir and India position is quite clear and well know.
Indo-Pak talks need people with lots of maturity and understanding, Qureshi was not even close to that here and exactly opposite Krishna was comparatively docile and not so proactive. But thats how diplomatic process are.

When we are openly accusing and abusing politicians for all the ills in the society, may it be fake degrees , wealth embezzlement, taking the people of the nation for a ride by making false promises etc etc etc. In nutshell are perfect living scum bags, so how can any one expect them to act maturely now?

it again proves that Pakistan political setup is just playing to the public. Why Pak minister came out like a junior school kid saying that nobody hears what he says. He should talk more inside the meeting than outside and its funny when he says it was India who was reluctant.

Pakistan knows the key is to nail down the terror originating from there land but they probably still want to use that as a leverage or reason to say "Everything will fall in place once Kashmir is solved"

everything happened wrong in FM meeting...the behaviour of FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi was not good,he is behaving like a child,i don't know why he was behaving like that but i just listen the comment of senior journalist of pakistan he said" he is behaving like that because he wanted to be a PM. he wants to build a strong vote bank in pakistan."
my question is that "Is right to insult the FM of india in press conference only for build a strong vote bank." may be once he will be the next PM of pakistan by killing the relationship of Pak and India. but is it right ?
