Eid Milad Un Nabi (S.A. W) Mubarak

What irks me the most, they pretend to be “liberal” and don’t even fall into the section. Confused minds.
If there was a term for liberal i.e someone open to new behavior and willing to discard traditional concepts.. the Prophet Sallalaho Wa-alahe wasalam was it. Discarded old practices of class and family, of archaic rituals and acts, of prexisting norms and political culture.

.
After all, I find it amusing to hear “Exact details” on Karbala as tragic and tear inducing the event is.. dramatic narratives of it down to who cried blood tears is simply just common human romanticism not confined to Islam.

But even these can be disputed(not saying they are) as the terms for them in Arabic have multiple interpretations which has led to certain fiqh joining them together. Take the last for eg, before sunrise and before sunset can mean fajr or maghrib or also fajr and asr if the arabic is interpreted differently.

The affirmation of these prayers timings comes from the Prophet’s life.

I personally believe, Quran is a holy book and it’s revelations of Quran aren’t supposed to be confusing. If you keep few questions in your mind before studying one Ayah, that would be so helpful. Such as, when was this Ayah revealed, it was revealed in Mecca or Madina. What was the setting? Was there any incident that the Ayah was revealed after that. It was meant for a group of people or for everyone?

That can clear all the confusions.

MOST of the problem arises from translations....SOME of the earliest translations to English were done by converts...They took crash courses in Arabic but a language of centuries cant be translated and maintain the essence...This is why I learned my Hadith in 2 languages comparing the translations and even to date I do my research in 2 languages - I know 4 but the other 2 are not strong enough to reason :(

I have found minor differences in translations and I assume over time these minor differences and based on how sensational your molvi is becomes big differences :(
Exactly! I have seen so called “Quranists” end up with anything between 3 to four prayers and other interpretations. Quite simply.. La-Ilahaillalah is the epitome of Surah Fatihah.. which in turn is the epitome of the Quran.. which is in turn the epitome of the life of the prophet.

That is why the last sentence states take all 5 of them together and based on overlapping...

Arabic is a very very precise language...Its singular / plural / plural for more than 2 entities, past present and everything is very precise!

The almighty God commands about prayers in the Qur’an:

حَافِظُواْ عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ والصَّلاَةِ الْوُسْطَى وَقُومُواْ لِلّهِ قَانِتِينَ

“Keep on offering the prayers and the middle prayer. Stand before God respectfully.” (al-Baqarah/the Bull; 2:238)

The word translated as ‘prayers’ is ‘salawat: الصَّلَوَاتِ’. This is the plural form of the word ‘salat: صلاة’ : ‘prayer’.

In Arabic language, there is a distinct form to name two entities. So, the plural form (here, as well as in general) denotes at least three entities. Therefore, the word salawat (prayers) denotes at least three prayers. The middle prayer is mentioned as an addition to these. So, to be able to find how many times we should pray, we have to find the next number having a ‘middle’ after 3, in other words the next odd number after 3, which is ‘5’. Therefore, considering the prayers and the middle prayer, we find out from the Qur’an that the number of prayers is at least five times a day.

That is the problem, Oscar. They believe to be liberal but they are not. And Rasool Allah (saw) was one of the most liberal person.

Unfortunately, people have misunderstood this word. People here hurt the sentiments of a person who’s religious or even if not religious but respect his religion and get away saying you are conservative mind and he’s liberal.

Hain what? I came up based on simple Arabic rules of the language

I totally concur, I mean how could one possibly conclude an outright bigot such as Tarek Fatah to be a champion of liberalism when he advocates the brutal suppression of Kashmiri youth and legislation to impede the human rights of Bharati Muslims.Kudos

Exactly. People are just two face and cover it with word “liberalism”.

Another verse about the prayer times is:

وَأَقِمِ الصَّلاَةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّـيِّئَاتِ ذَلِكَ ذِكْرَى لِلذَّاكِرِينَ

“Offer the prayer in two parts of the daytime and in the times of the night that are closer to daytime. Surely, good works drive away evil works. This is the sound information for those who use their knowledge.” (Hud 11:114)

Part of something is called taraf (طرف) in Arabic. According to the verse above, the first obligatory prayer prescribed, is during the time when the sun shifts to the west. The second must be the ‘asr’ period since it is the only other prayer offered during the daytime.

Zulaf (زلف) is the plural form of zulfa زلفة)), and means ‘closeness’. Since the plural form denotes at least three entities, the term “zulaf of the night” means ‘at least three periods that are close to the daytime’. Closeness to daytime can only be noticed by seeing some light in the sky. These are the three periods when some light exists in the sky: magrib, isha and fajr times.

Thus, we clearly see that five times of praying is already written in the Qur’an.

But that is born out of your personal experiences and knowledge; which is different for all and impossible especially in terms of experiences (family upbringing, background, local culture, social status and even if you hit your head and someone’s prayer happened to seem to reduce the pain for you).. it’s just too unique to be uniform yet it the beauty of Islam is that despite all this uniqueness it still maintains a higher degree of uniformity in thought versus other religions when compared relatively in terms of population , geography, cultures and time.

Im not saying you are wrong since Im aware of the intracacies of Arabic but am referring to people interpreting it differently if they have differing concepts of it. After all, the Arabic of the Quran is like English from the times of Elizabeth the first to today’s.

That actually conclude the discussion.

Well yes and no....The general rules havent changed just how people use them....The Arabs themselves have found slang like words and shortcuts like in English....but their literature still does have the olden stuff and since it isnt a dead language you can trace it back just need a good and patient teacher

PEOPLE just make life difficult for themselves....ALLAH never did nor ask us for any difficulty kissing your elbow like situations!
