Mukul Roy (L), Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday
As the clashes claimed several lives at different places in West Bengal during Ram Navami processions in which Sangh Parivar outfits carried swords, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) warned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee against turning the state into another Bangladesh while the BJP leadership alleged that she had unleashed state-sponsored terror on Hindus.
Senior party leaders from Bengal as well as the Centre, led by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, attacked the Trinamool Congress chief for "doing Third Front politics in Delhi while West Bengal was burning".
"Bengal is on fire and the CM, who is also the state Home Minister, is doing politics here in Delhi. Mamata is Nero personified: 'Rome was burning while Nero fiddled'. If you want to do politics, you do it, but first douse the fire of violence in Bengal which has been ignited by her own men who are attacking innocent 'Ram Bhakts'... Law and order has broken down in West Bengal," Javadekar said.
Surendra Jain, international joint general secretary of VHP, said Hindus of Bengal had proved that they would not tolerate anti-Hindu and anti-national activities in the name of secularism.
