China's XCMG supplies Massive 2000 ton crawler crane to Bangladesh Fertilizer Project

XCMG has been showcasing the power of its new, massive crane.

XCMG’s 2,000-ton XLC26000 crawler crane has successfully completed the hoisting and installation of a 603-ton carbon dioxide stripping tower for the construction project of the largest green fertilizer plant in Bangladesh in this month.

The XLC26000 is the largest ever tonnage crawler crane that China has exported to Bangladesh. Bangladesh has been relying on importing agricultural fertilizers.

The project, undertaken by China Nuclear Industry Mechanical Engineering Company, will bolster synthetic ammonia production capacity to reach 500,000 tons per year and urea production of 800,000 tons per year upon completion, which will effectively fill the market gap and greatly lower the import dependency rate and enable Bangladesh’s fertilizer industry to be “self-sufficient” by and large.

The carbon dioxide stripping tower is the tallest and heaviest piece of equipment at the plant, and to ensure smooth operation, XCMG’s project service team has adopted the plan of using the latest 2,000-ton crawler crane as the main crane and a 400-ton crawler crane coordinating.

With a series of advanced and industry-leading intelligent technologies including the connection method of “mechanical positioning + hydraulic power latch” and one-touch main boom luffing, the XLC26000 was assembled seven days ahead of schedule greatly reducing time cost.

The XLC26000 adopts the 90-meter super crane main boom with placing radius of 30 meters, using the technique of single main engine lift delivery, it successfully lifted a 603-ton heavy and 68.5 meters tall carbon dioxide stripping tower in only five hours.

Mohammed Rajiur Rahman Mollick, director of the project, says: “XCMG equipment can be seen in all major construction projects in Bangladesh.

“The XLC26000 crawler crane is not only the strongest in the project, but also the largest tonnage in the country and I believe that it will provide strong support and guarantee for the project’s upcoming construction.”

The highest capacity crane in Bangladesh (although a floating one and locally made) was so far 1000 tons. It has been used in various heavy lifting tasks in infra projects around the country (and also salvage operations for ships, which this company does).

Bangladesh-based Bengal Electric to unveil 1,000-ton floating crane​

Bangladesh-based Bengal Electric said it expects in July to have a new floating crane with 1,000-ton capacity ready for operation.
The crane will measure 260 feet long, 66 feet wide and 15 feet above the water level, and is designed to operate at temperatures ranging from minus 30 to plus 55 Celsius (minus 22 to 131 Fahrenheit). The crane is also equipped with all the necessary safety gear with LMI and advanced computerized load weighing software.

Mottakin Salam, Bengal’s deputy managing director, said the design and construction of the crane took 10 years. He said cranes of this size are not available in many Asian countries and that Bengal hopes to use it to become “a major player in this market.”

“Our new 1,000 ton capacity mega floating crane is now in the final stages of assembly and will be amongst the biggest in the region. We are proud and honored to build this crane which will be an asset not only for our company, but for the whole nation of Bangladesh.”

It has taken 10 years of hard work to build this mega crane which is not available in many countries in Asia and we look forward to expanding into the international arena and becoming a major player for these countries. The crane is half the size of a football field and can accommodate crews of 30-40 with modern facilities and amenities.”

The whole FEA analysis & drawing was prepared by Mr. Mottakin Salam whilst the crane boom was designed by Bengal Electric Chairman & CEO, Mr. Abdus Salam – both Bengal Directors are expert engineers.

Since its founding in 1969, Bengal has been involved in numerous major construction projects for electrical power generation, transmission and distribution, optical fiber cables, railway signaling, heavy and oversized shipments and other work.

It has already been more than 5 years since this news was published and I read it in the PDF. What is the updated news about large cranes made in BD, floating or crawling?

I do not think private companies can achieve big things without the govt patronizing them. If you go through the industrial development history of those countries that have developed through many centuries, you will see that many mechanical big projects were initiated by the govt bodies who delegated certain private companies to do research, and trial and error.

When a prototype was built, a govt body purchases it to do work with it. But, I do not see any such thing in BD. Govt talking about development and then importing all the goods of importance and we shout it is development and 2041.

Talking of BD development is a joke!!!
