Thailand is the homebase of USA and Japan investment ... indeed !!
China is going to risk their security again ...
The vietcong section of north bound route hasnt changed. With or without the canal we still have to go through it.
The route from west to east has shortened substantially however
Yeah, Japan is ready to say bye bye to Malacca strait by building a new international port in Lach Huyen-Hai Phong (near Ha Noi) city.
Has the japanese any port or base at Malacca strait?
But they are as dependent as we are if not more so on the Strait through which a huge chunk of their energy and food supplies are passing through:
"• Japan: 80% of Japan’s petroleum imports and 60% of its imported foodstuffs pass through the Malacca Straits, making Japan one of the most dependent user nations.Japan has invested millions of dollars in enforcing security in the Malacca Straits due to its significance to the Japanese economy. The Nippon Foundation (a Japanese non-profi t focused on humanitarian work and maritime development) has worked with and donated money to the Malacca Straits Council. The Nippon Foundation estimates that piracy costs Japan around US$10-15 million per annum
