Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group Checks in to US 5th Fleet

The US didn't need to build more aircraft to achieve parity with the Soviets, just better ones. Quality reduces the need for quantity and Japanese military arms are of very high quality.

Absolutely right. It is also fortunate that the United States has both , in regards to its carrier force, quality and quantity. ;)

I can't wait to see those Gerard Ford Class ships...!

It behooves me to think that some Chinese members would think it necessary for Japan to build as many as China or Russia. Just enough that would make China and Russia think twice about considering anything irreversible.
didn't say need, I just said, did it make you think twice.

Never as a regular posting as I wasn't a sailor or a ship stationed sensor tech, my experience in the Navy was with EMSEC and electronic systems; I was shore borne. I have worked on the Aegis baselines, conducted certification on the seekers for the SM-3, SM-6 and ESSM and helped reduce or shield communications gear from too much electronic leakage, but I was never a permanent feature on board a ship. I've been on destroyers, Japanese one's too, but it was always for a few days a most.

Anything Navy related and electronic involved was something I was going to have a hand in. My only two trips to Japan, both for just a week and neither allowing me to see the sights , where all for certification and integration of new systems, i.e., coastal radar, missile assets, joint Japanese-US communications gear.
Very nice. The American contingent on this forum have experience in the air force, army, and navy. Far better than any group, I dare say.

Qualitative contribution of the American posters' cannot be emphasized enough.

I value their input from the economic aspect (@LeveragedBuyout ), to the air force aspect (@gambit ), to the naval and engineering aspect (@TruthSeeker , @F-22Raptor , @SvenSvensonov ). As well as the authoritative component (@CENTCOM ).

Unmovable alliance and getting stronger and may it continue that way. Having seen over the past few days, articles on PDF about China and Japan re-approaching each other (only to have those hopes dashed again by Abe's shrine offering and China's incursion response), I've been quietly questioning the sanity of people that think the US and Japan can have a wedge driven between each other. Sure Chinese and Japanese economics are important for both nations, cultural exchanges to. But both sides are weary of each other's military and no amount of rapprochement is going to change this anytime soon.

Are you ex military?

The American group here is few compares to others. And less loudmouthed as well. But when it comes to the military issues, considering this a military oriented forum, the Americans' output is weighed more in sum in terms of quality of information provided than any other group. Finally, this place need an experienced voice about economics and high finance issues and Mr. LB is that voice.

I agree with you, Sir.

Any news on LRASM?

Still in testing. Apart from that the only minor development is that Rep. Randy Forces seems to think that the US should set up an A2/AD type system with the LRASM as the main coastal battery. I don't think the letter he wrote to Gen. Odierno will get much attention as no nation is currently threatening the US mainland and no one wants us to set up an A2/AD type defense system in South Asia or anywhere else. Apart from that nothing major is happening. If anything does come up I will let you and the rest of PDF know.

Thank you. In my opinion once we field LRASM our anti-surface capabilities will take a huge leap.

Thank you for your kind words, and I agree with you that the American users tend to be more substantive in their posts (either through the provision of technical information, supporting materials, or critically needed background knowledge and experience).

On a side note, I wanted to include @Peter C among the group, as he also has a finance background, and has been doing yeoman's work helping project an image of the true United States on PDF, in contrast to the many voices raised against us.
