Around 1,700 Hindus convert to Buddhism in Bihar

On a serious note, its time for Hindus to introspect. Rather than going for aggressive ghar wapasi progrom they should focus on removing the bane of caste system. The day caste system is fully abolished there would be no need for poor and untouchable Indians to leave their religion.

No much will change in converting from Hinduism to Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism since they Indian religions. There will be difference if they convert to Islam or Christianity. This will start Hinduvta brigade backlash.

Hundreds of evangelical and Daawa organizations openly operate in India with huge shows and fanfare - Zakir Naik as an example and thousands of people convert to islam and Christianity every year. There is no backlash.

Yes there is some friction in rural communities a times as with any change, but that's expected in a country of 1.3 billion people. There's backlash only when Hindus do Daawa.

Discrimination, except positive one is already outlawed in India. Private discrimination exists and it will go away with modernity as has happened in the more industrialized states in India. But its cute that you think evangelicals convert people to save them from the bane of caste system.

You must be an evangelical Christian, right? Ive seen Christians also use caste system for marriage.

Anyway why worry about ghar wapsi as hindus have caste system so it will fail. Take it easy.

Hope you are not a Rohingya.

:D Good one. Burmans got bad education of Buddhism. Not to kill anyone. Which is the basic Buddhist teachings. We can see what happened to Indian Buddhists in the past performing that. But according to Rigveda killing rivers are Maha Papa. So Hindus are also not following their religious teachings as well :-)

How can we? We have muslim neighbors who are very particular about following their own :(

Of course nobody should kill anyone, like these apostates were not killed by Hindus,

If Buddhism grows on to become at least 5-10% population and continuous to grow, the very same Hindutva Brigade will forget about this Dharmic drama and you will soon see a backlash against them...

Around 1,700 Hindus convert to Buddhism in Bihar | Business Standard News

Most of the converted were dalits and mahadalits, who have been facing social discrimination in day to day life

Around 1,700 Hindus in Bihar have embraced Buddhism citing the religion's emphaisis on unity and no discrimination among its followers, an official said Monday.

Of these, 1,200 belong to Bainkathpur and Kudarbagha villages in Saran district, about 80 km from here, said a district police official.

The conversion took place Saturday and Sunday, the official added.

According to the official, most of those converted to Buddhism were dalits and mahadalits and have been facing social discrimination in day to day life.

After converting to Buddhism, they said they have chosen the new religion for its stress on unity and no discrimination among its followers, the official said.

On Saturday, 500 Hindus embraced Buddhism in the state's Gaya district.

Great 1700 more peaceful people in this world. Wish they had converted to atheism.

I know Buddhism spread to Southeast Asia from India but I wonder why there more Chinese Buddhist compare to India since Buddha was born and raised in India subcontinent then later Buddhism was created.

Chinese tribes adopted Buddhism and try to be one nation but in that all the Chinese ethnic groups are not Buddhist by faith and have adopted different sects of Buddhism. Thats why Chinese leadership adopted communism to unite them again. But this has increased the number of Christians in China because of the missionaries.

There are around 54 million Christians in China which is around 4% and these numbers have increased in just 150 years but when it comes to Chinese Muslims its around 2% around 24 to 25 million.

All religions are universal which are being adopted by nations. By saying like this you are restricting Hinduism just to India. If native Indians adopt any religion this will not make them less Indian.

India should not become Dharamshala that all from other countries can enter freely in India and divide native Indians on terms of the religion. Indians be there from any religions will be Indians only.

Both hinduism and Buddhism have origins in this land itself...so all the best to the new converts.

And how this Ambetkar Buddhism is ? Does it says that Buddha was Indian and believes in equality ?

you only said, when I asked, which buddhism they converted to, you said the one which ambedkar converted into , what should describe it as?

Unless they start killing Hindus or deliberately speaking ill of hindu gods/godesses in major way (which isn't part of their religion anyway), there won't be any "backlash". Because we hindus do not consider Buddism as a separate religion. We consider buddha as 10th re-incarnation of Vishnu...

Somehow I love this pure entertainment our neighbors are providing us,

Game of Convertions

A converts 15, B converts 20.

Then X and Y join the game. X converts 10 back and Y takes 5 from A converted ...

Oh man,
Good for learning Maths.....isn't it...

And who gets to decide what is deliberate....? Let's not forget as to what had happened between Hindus and Buddhists during those times....
