Arjun mk II ready for trial!

OBVIOUSLY they will HAVE to put a 1500hp engine in that tank, otherwise it will be as fast as a bullcart!
unless they make it lighter, which doesn't seem like it...

I think 75 KMPH top speed and 40 KMPH cruise speed right now is more than adequate. Kinda comparable to the British Challenger.

it is currently running o 1500 Hp german engine what he ment is that DRDO is developing one on its own to fit it in indigenously

The tank commanders love the Arjun...but IA is skeptical about how to build logistics and train crews for the new kind of tank. This is the first time after the Centurions we are going to use a tank design derived from the operational realities the west.

It will take a long time for the army to prepare and use the Arjun to its full capability. The T 90 is ore like a plug and play system for them.

You are off the mark in your statement. After the Centurions, the Armoured Corps used the Vijayantas (remember them) as the main-stay of their force. And if you remember; the Vijayantas though a Vickers (British) design, were built at Avadi. And some of them exist to this day (as reserves).
About the second statement, the Army knows the Arjun as well; just that they did not set up a complete support system for them since they inducted them in small numbers. Between the two tanks in discussion, there is a large difference in design concepts; based as they are on different doctrines.
Both are appropriate to their doctrines.

And yes, the Army would do well to take a leaf out of the IN's book, by getting involved in the conceptualisation and design of their requirements, rather than thinking like a customer at the neighbourhood grocer's shop.

Summer trials this year of upgraded indigenous battle tank:victory::victory::victory:

I repeat, within a year!.......

1.Volume occupied by the electronics package will be low.

2.A total of 93 upgrades, including the advanced air defence gun system for firing at attack helicopters. Missiles firing capability to destroy long-range targets and bring down attack helicopters.

3.Panoramic sight with night vision for the tank's commander. An automatic target tracking system to add accuracy when firing on a moving target.

4.Explosive reactive armor panel which will comprise explosives in metallic brick form. These bricks will be mounted all round the MBT. When the enemy ammunition hits these bricks, they will explode and retard the energy of the projectile. Tanks armor will not be penetrated.

5.Improvements in material, fuel injection and filtration technologies will contribute to the reduction in the engine size without compromising on power.

6.Indian Army has placed an intent for production of 124 Arjun-Mk II tanks.

7.Phase I, 45 tanks will roll out with 56 upgrades, including the missile firing capability and the commander's panoramic sight with night vision.

8.Phase II, the remaining 79 tanks, with all the 93 improvements, will come off the assembly line. “By 2013-14, the first batch of around 30 tanks will go out,” Dr. Sivakumar said.

:victory:

^^ Yes, we can!:mps::mps:

Thats outstanding! :bounce: They took less than a year to make mk II because most of the technologies were developed already and the base is there with development of Arjun. Future systems will not take much time like past projects.

Over all 93 upgrades means they are upgrading all major systems from protection to signature management to sight to automatic target tracking. :smokin:
