Did anybody watch the movie Shaka Zulu ? For a 80's movie it is well scripted and has great acting and special effects. A bit long but worth watching

Yes.It's pretty good,i liked it alongside Zulu and Zulu Dawn.

India, Pakistan and Bangladeshi movies will have to have a love story in it. It's like the universal rule here. And they are shit.

Besides how can you understand those movies unless you can understand Hindi or Urdu?

FYI: Hollywood doesn't make movies on Mughals, as it is not profitable.

There is a movie on the India China conflict, but can't recollect.

I think you are talking about the Chetan Anand directed movie "Haqeeqat" which is based on the Sino-Indian war.That is the only Hindi war movie which is based on actual fact and hence extremely accurate.

Effects and gear shown like helicopters is first class. But the acting was BS. Wasted a good effort and resources. Now anyone who makes a good movie on Tamil crisis will be called a copy cat of this sh!t..

Madras Cafe is only good movie based on covert ops Bollywood ever produce. Movie story is resolve around RAW and LTTE and killing of Rajiv Gandhi by suicide bomb.

Haider is the best war-related movie we've produced. Only 1 small dance sequence that is skippable.

Our best movies are not war movies, and I don't know of any good Indian film on wars of that period. Some war movies I personally like are 1. Border (1997) (Border (1997) - IMDb which is based on the 1971 Indo-Pak war, it shows the epic battle of Longewala. and 2. Lakshya (2004) (Lakshya (2004) - IMDb which is based on the 1999 Kargil war. LOC Kargil was another movie that was made on the Kargil war, but the director killed it by pushing too many characters and too many short background stories in it.
Another old war movie is considered to be very good; Haqeeqat (1964) (Haqeeqat (1964) - IMDb based on the 1962 Indo-China war.

But remember that these films are not purely war movies and they also have another story in the background going along with the war story, and all of them have songs, no typical Bollywood dance though.

Anglo-Mysore wars- The Sword of Tipu Sultan (old TV Series)- based on book by Bhagwan Gidwani
Anglo-Maratha- The Great Maratha (old TV Series)
British Raj- The Jewel in the Crown (old British TV series) - Very Good.
British Raj- A Passage to India (1984 British Film)
Shyam Benegal's Junoon is a decent movie on the 1857 mutiny.

For ancient India, Chanakya is definitely worth a watch- with subs.

Bharat Ek Khoj (TV Series) is like a compendium of Indian history with some elements of fiction.


P.S. WRT Mughals: Also remember an old TV series called Akbar the Great. Never watched it with any interest so no idea. Also Jodhaa Akbar(Movie)- some pathetic fighting scenes are included. Mughal-e-Azam is an old classic movie. Never watched it, although the songs are still popular.
