Any good Indian war movies ?

.
@flamer84

though not set in the era you asked for, i will recommend three fine films that i pick from my careful head...

1. vijeta ( 1982 ) - this is a realistic portrayal of life in airforce bases and the struggle of one pilot... when war comes, the film does not demean itself by getting hyperpatriotic and bashing pakistanis... the story is universal and there is some fine videography and background music... it is a unqiue film for india in the military-background genre... i am not a great fan of wars or militaries but this is a very fine film.

2. harud ( 2010 ) - the best film from india on the kashmir issue, portrayed through the story of ordinary kashmiris... the film is unique, picturized in the minimalist and real way that many people associate with iran films... the film is written and directed by aamir bashir, who is kashmiri and works in indian ads, film and theatre... i found the film very moving.

Welcome to Aamir Bashir Film Harud

3. haider ( 2014 ) - the best indian commercial film on kashmir issue... this has songs but i have never seen kashmir more realistically portrayed in bombay films than in this one... from hairstyles to house interiors, all seems real... the film takes a neutral stand... this film received lot of hate from the callous ultra-nationalists connected to the right-wing... there were vicious online campaigns to call people to boycott it and have the cast and crew of the film arrested for being "anti-nationals"... there was a thread on pdf too calling for boycott, search for it... utterly obscene acts these... but the film ran, and the cast and crew were very brave to make it... the film gathered some industry awards too... the film has a spectacular ending... also, aamir bashir, from the previous film, harud, is a actor in this film.

I saw The Patriot ,a few times.Fetih 1453.....maybe tonight,if i'm on 13-15 beers level but i even doubt that.It's crappy/
Watch casualties of war or maybe we were soldiers, letters from Iwo Jima .. Pak movie industry got fuked by zia .. But it's standing back on its feet.. But unlike indian movies these are much more realistic b mostly based on social issues .. Apart from 1 or 2 war movies both based on on going war on terror...

By asian standards Waar (movie) is nice... (No dancing n shit like indian movies though).. Apart from some sound tracks at the end or so.

I think Prahaar was a good movie (not a war movie but based on Indian army). Some of the incidents in the movie 're really true (like officer trainees making excuses to get a leave lol). It was one of my fav childhood movies.

This is a funny commando training scene from the movie...

have you watched this movie?

This is the infamous commando jump! For an untrained civilian this one is a nightmare of galactic proportions! But it's ok once you get used to it. :D

prahar is indeed a good film, with quiet moments where they should be, like in the room of the commando teacher ( nana patekar ), or the moments in the life of commando peter d'souza... thanks for reminding.

i liked how the trainees sitting were looking at the aerial arrangement with worried expressions... i especially liked the part towards the end of the north easterner ( diganto mili?? ) who doesn't know how to swim, and when he jumps into the pool, his legs create as much churn in the water as a motorboat.

If members know some good war movies touching the Anglo-Mysore Wars,Anglo-Maratha Wars,or Maratha-Mughal/Afghan/different Sultanate Wars pls share the titles here. Thanks in advance.

No singing and dancing scenes. pls.:p:

The categories you desire are hard to place there's "Jodha Akbar"(mughal period) but even then it is not a proper war film, and sorry cannot exclude song and dance.

One of my favorites is Lakshya.
Apart from being a war drama film it is also a coming of age movie about a rich kid living a hedonistic lifestyle.
Its Bollywood, I'm sorry but singing and dancing is pathological, its more bearable in this film.
Lakshya is considered a cult classic. Give it a go, you'll like it. Its not as corny as most Bollywood movies out there.

I think i have watched it..... I still remember one dialogue from it.... after exhaustive training in the night one guy says.... "Naak mein eik Makhi baitha hein, zara bagavo usko....." the other guy replies "Makhi bhi mauka ka fayda utha raha hein"

In my opinion you can't beat the classic "Border"- based on the battle of Longewala, one of the most impressive battles of modern time.

I heard this was decent...maybe other Indian members can verify, didnt watch it myself.
About covert ops type stuff, Sri Lankan civil war.

Tried watching this the other day with my mother but we got bored halfway in and ended up watching Jab Tak Hai Jaan which actually was not bad (just not a "war" movie at all).

The training part was just too hilarious.
Can't say I have @levina

Look like they filmed at the IA's infantry officer training "commando" school at Belgaum.
Exactly!! :)
