Yuz, first Iran-made electric car, hits streets in Tehran

The two-seater Yuz has been manufactured by a knowledge-based Iranian company.
Residents in Tehran on Tuesday spotted an unusual sight as the first Iranian-made electric car drove through the congested streets of the megacity of some 12 million.
A picture of the eco-friendly sleek vehicle, named Yuz after the critically endangered Asiatic cheetah surviving today only in Iran, on the streets of Tehran became one of the hottest posts on social networks and attracted a lot of attention from virtual users.

Reports said its manufacturers, a startup named Parax Motors, have just obtained a license plate and other certificates for driving in public.
The two-seater car is equipped with an electric motor in the rear axle that is capable of producing 20 horsepower or 15 KW and takes about three and half hours to charge.
Once charged, it can travel up to 100 km on a normal road, but on urban trips in a city like Tehran, it can cover only 60 km. The car weighs 480 kg and can withstand a weight of up to 250 kg.
Its small size and easy driving comes with other advantages, the most obvious of which is that it results - like with other electric cars - in a significant reduction in air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
According to its manufacturers, the French version of the car has a price tag of 7,000-8,500 euros depending on its options, but efforts are being made to produce Yuz at lower prices in Iran.

Iran Khodro resumes car production in Africa

Seniran Auto in Senegal's second city of Thies has an annual production capacity of 5,000 cars.
Iran Khodro, the biggest automobile producer in the Middle East, has reactivated its assembly line for production of Samand sedans in Senegal, its deputy director for exports and international affairs says.
The company began assembling cars in Thies, Senegal's second largest city 70 km from Dakar, in 2008 through a local joint venture named Seniran Auto, but the West African country severed diplomatic relations with Iran in February 2011 which disrupted the partnership.
Kianoush Pourmojib, quoted by Fars news agency on Tuesday, said that the Senegalese government had agreed to extend a duty free scheme, following which "necessary measures were taken" to reactivate Iran Khodro's production site in the country and resume production and supply of Seniran products.
For now, the plant has started producing Samand LX cars for use in the taxi fleet, but other products are being introduced to the Senegal market to gauge the needs and tastes of the country's customers, he said.
"Despite international restrictions, Iran Khodro‌'s efforts to revive the site have borne fruit and the cargo ordered by the Senegalese has been shipped and the assembly and supply of Samand taxis has begun," Pourmojib said.
"We are planning to export other products of the Iran Khodro Industrial Group to Senegal, including heavy and semi-heavy commercial vehicles and motorbikes," Pourmojib said.
According to the official, this is the second shipment of CKD (completely knocked down) kits for assembly by Seniran Auto which has targeted re-exports to Guinea and Nigeria in the past.
"By activating the Senegal site, we will be able to pursue export targets in the African region more easily," he added.
Iran Khodro owns 60% of the shares in the $100 million joint venture with an annual production capacity of 5,000 cars which are equipped with ABS brake system, air bags, air-conditioners, and central locking.
Tehran’s quest for trade partners is not limited to Africa. It also has factories in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Syria and Venezuela.
 
Resources being wasted on cars instead of developing more efficient public transportation to reduce traffic congestion and reduce air pollution.

Common Iranian people and their leaders would live longer as a result.

Also electric car for a single person? So American.

Iran has a very strong car culture..when you have gasoline at 5 cents people want cars to enjoy freedom ..car manufacturing also is a good way to industrialized..the public transport in big cities is a good thing to have but it should not be mutually exclusive to car ownership...I passed through Bulgharia in late 70s where people were bussed like cattel in the public transports...not good either..

The more personal cars are the more pollution thus more people end up in hospital and more burden on healthcare system hence takes away from budget to invest.

A person goes from home to work and then car idles there for 8 hours then goes home and car idles for 13-14 hours. Rarely ever has passengers when driving.

All that steel, machinery and so forth could have been invested in ballistic missile force for deterrence against rabid American war machine.

Or invest in railways.

your points are well taken...I was reading your posts about the aircraft engine as I am not an aircraft engine person myself but I was curious about your knowledge of Iranian aircraft engines...your info about Owj engine was new to me.:cheers:

Jet engine technology are applicable to gas turbines generators, both Owj and Jahesh will contribute to those a lot and Iran will be more up to date.

I am unfavorable to automobiles as well, but Iran has literally excelled in the development of urban rail, in particular metro systems, compared to countries with similar development and GDP levels (for instance, Iran is ahead of PGCC countries in this regard): no less than 5 major cities have metro systems, Tehran has 6 underground and 1 suburban lines (about 30km average length) etc.

Inter-city railway yes, more ought be done in this regard but still, under the Islamic Republic the pace of railway development more or less doubled compared to the former regime (the overthrown, pro-western and secularist monarchy), with thousands upon thousands of new lines opened, numerous provincial capitals and smaller towns connected to the network, more efficient diesel-electric locomotives introduced, strides made in domestic production etc.

As we wait for the official unvailing of the Iranian Electric vehicles (EV) here are two gasoline engine SUVs (China origin I think) and a small low cost sedan (possibly iranian design) and assembled in Iran... good employment for auto workers. The Sedan is priced around ($400 million Toman) which I calculate it to around $10,000 dollars

As we wait for the official unvailing of the Iranian Electric vehicles (EV) here are two gasoline engine SUVs (China origin I think) and a small low cost sedan (possibly iranian design) and assembled in Iran... good employment for auto workers. The Sedan is priced around ($400 million Toman) which I calculate it to around $10,000 dollars
More than $10K. It's more like $14.2K
 
A year or so ago, I remember watching a YouTubers vlog that claimed that second hand cars in Iran were seen as an appreciating asset. This was because of the economic hardship in the country. Has the trend reversed now?

There is a huge demand for personal cars in Iran because gas is cheap (5 cents per liter) and country is vast and population density is low...The domestic car production droped to half because some foreign parts likeAIR BAGS OR ABS brakes could not be imported(Trump sanction)...cars were parked outside factories due to missing parts...that was the reason for second hand market..

Now some of those parts are made inside and the car production is targeted for 1.5 million this year and 3 million in 4 years.

missing part my *** , the missing parts were mirror and such and judiciary system also recently warned them about the tactic to inflate the price

and is this because of missing parts

no the car makers in Iran are nothing but leeches
 
Iranian Auto plant..1.5 million cars per year..3 million in 4 years. Toyota the world biggest producer is 11 million per year..
