India has offered $500 million USD loan of weapons to Bangladesh

If you want, countries will offer you anything because it earns them revenues.

The point I am raising is from the point of view of Bangladesh military's finance department.

What will you do with such lethal weapons when the possibility of a full scale war with either India or Myanmar are less than zero?

No sir. Proud Indian from Sikkim. Bhutia by community if that's what you're asking. :)

A Trump like president were likely zero in USA only a few years back. If India could elect a PM like Modi, it is more likely it could elect somebody like Hitler. Who knows? We hope for the best but should prepare for the worst.

PM Modi is doing a great work for our country. We are happy with it. His reforms are helping our economy and people grow. I don't know about Trump but India will never initiate any war, that is something guaranteed.

Such levels of distrust isn't good when we are talking about integrating our economies through BIMSTEC initiative.

Bangladesh can not depend on some random internet warrior. It does what a rational pragmatic state will do to protect itself from any unwelcoming event in the future.

By buying weapons which will punch a hole straight into your economy and that too partly from that very source of perceived threat?

Yes, very wise indeed.

Brahmos is a anti-ship missile,it's not some wunder weapon. We already have C802 and Ottomats, with 150km to 180km range so please...Just because the possibility of war in the region is remote does not mean we should not be prepared (if that was the logic most nations would not bother having any defence budgets). Singapore has no real threat yet it has one of the most modern and extensive navies in the region.

As for the defence budget, our economy is growing fast, $246bn now and expected to grow to at least $320bn in the next 3 years....defence budgets will double in the next 5-6 years. So we can afford good capital expenditure on the latest systems.

Our defense budget is quite low with respect to our GDP. We can double our defese budget with ease

We spend just 1.2%-1.4% of our GDP on defence (with the low GDP, we spent less then $3bn). This meant almost all of our expenditure went into salaries and very little on capital. Now our economy has started to mature and we can afford better capital expenditure.

Your right, india is precieved threat, and that is why we dont buy from india (even though india sends their defence minister to try to sell). We buy mainly from China or Russia, even Serbia but not india.

You are building a naval base at Sagar Island, just across the maritime boundary with Bangladesh while your eastern command is going through a massive modernization program... The same question could be asked to you, why you need all these things when there is no possibility of a full scale war in the Bay of Bengal?
