A few of my ' favourite things' to do in Pakistan / India

Icarus, if there is one thing you should do when your in India is be in Goa for a week in December or January. Rest everything can wait :D

Trust me ;)

no its very hot in there:flame::flame::flame: both in weather n other way:lol:

anybody talking about Goa?? I m hitting Goa 15th Nov...riding the Enfield during the day and chilling out in the evening with a bottle of beer....god.. I need that desperately..cant remember when was the last time I took a vacation...

Given the new regime of easy visas etc I have often wondered that I were given a chance to visit Pakistan ( & I could afford it) , what all would I like to do / see.

I have listed some below , these are in random order.

1. Visit places I have heard my family members speak of where they lived at different times - Quetta, Nowshera, DI Khan, DG khan, Kohat , Bannu. Have pictures of old houses in the cantt. Wonder if those houses still remain.

2 . Places where some relatives ( post marriage) came from - Gujar Khan.

3. Khyber / Bolan Pass - the history of the sub continent was impacted by what came through or did not come through these passes.

4. Lahore fort, town, Nankana Sahab & other Sikh & Hindu shrines. Also Multan - the city of shrines.

5. Eat - every conceivable type of Chicken / mutton dish that's on offer. Not to mention breads.

6. Travel in Pak trains - anywhere to anywhere.

7. Watch Pak theater - plays .

8. Spend as much time possible / permissible in old libraries.

9 . Shop for onyx and the endless list I would be naturally be given.

10. Meet people - just sit in coffee houses or similar places and talk - get to know them.

The wish list could understandably be endless .. if only I can.

Wonder what others would like to do in India / Pakistan.

Sounds like vegetarians can just fuggedabahtit.

I completely agree with it :)

metro is not running in rural areas and Pakistan railway is not as bad as we think..its only those who are running this railway are stupid and lack management skills

We are talking about the railways, right?

It may be a good idea to start tourism packages - the 6 night & 7 days type.

The travel agent / company organising the package could be made responsible for ensuring people in the group do not meander off and visit places duly cleared by authorities on both sides - along a pre defined circuit.

The group would use buses from the state tourism bureau only - and / or if need be local police could also travel with them for their personal safety and to ensure interaction with locals stays in a manner both countries want.

It could be a doorstep to doorstep type trip.

There would be takers for this on both sides I feel and would help to loosen up relations on both sides.

I'd grab this package idea, except that there are so many individual Pakistanis I need to meet. We've become friends over the years; how would this kind of Soviet regime tour help me meet them?

You know mate i have read a lot of accounts of Indians visiting Pakistan but barely a couple of detailed accounts and impressions of Pakistani's who have visited India recently. Would you be able to find such or know such accounts?

Are you out of your furshlugginer mind? Do you know how tough it is to get bookings in December/January in Goa? Or in south India for that matter? Everything's booked solid.

One of my favorite things to do was go to my local barbershop and get shaved and clean cut, then buy a bubble up and a cigarette and enjoy with the babas that were sitting around with their old radios and reading newspapers.
