Why Pakistan Army desperate for New tank

Ah Pak is only waiting for Altay :)

altay-mbt-jpg.252062
gotta admit its a beast. but it not viable for pakistan.

to the south east of pakistan is the thar desert the altay will be to problematic for the hot sun and desert conditions, but to the north of the east border then thats were the altay will be most ideal. this is because theres not much desert there and that area is the most sensitive and the altay is heavily armoured. so it makes sense to have it there.

but its very expensive $4+million each and most likely pakistan would like tot so that would bump up the overall unit price.

Recently Pakistan did purchase almost 300 old tanks that are upgraded one..i think they are from Serbia ...
I don't think they are meant to fight enemy tanks. Probably those belong to civil armed forces on western boarder busy in fighting against terrorism.

there is no enemy tanks on pak-afghan border.they are mainly used for insurgents in fight against terroism and to protect CPEC

i don't think a big force of tanks are needed, the PA should just stop producing bullshit like tallah APC and upgrade it to IFV status with the help of turkey and china, we'll have 1200 modernish Tanks + 800 IFVs, the PA should just invest in legit ATGMs liscence produce the HJ-10s.

There were reports of procurement of unknown numbers of old Russian tanks from Bosnia a month back probably this will be for Western border.

.
Guys just imagine Pakistan Armor with latest AK 3 as well as MBT-99 A 2 along with AK 1 and T-80 UD. You are looking one of the best Tank force in the world.

.
I think the reason why PA is desperate for new tank is because they need a heavy weight powerful battle tank. Al Zarrar & Ak 1 both are light weight, so PA is looking for heavy weight battle tank.

They are not looking for heavy weight Tank other wise they would have opted for Altay by now. They are least interested in heavy weight Tank

We have a good stock for our eastern borders but we are lull on western sides. We need some tanks for Pak-Afghan borders.
tanks can't operate on the along our western border that's why PA purchased AMRAPs
besides PA should focus on helicopters rather than new tanks. Al-Khalid should be produced in large numbers to replace the older obsolete tanks then we can perhaps look towards new heavy tanks
helicopters are much more effective to counter enemy armor and tanks are like sitting ducks against helicopters

PA Aviation are finally focusing on helicopters too.

yes i am very pleased to hear that
in a hypothetical indo-pak conflict our greatest advantage will be the mobility of our forces and helicopters play a crucial part in that
this will also nullify the indian cold start doctrine

.
What we lack systems like stryker 8x8 whelled with 100 mm turet can destroy tank and more versatile in mobility

Invest in more Attack helicopters
But atleast two JF 17 squadrons dedicated to PA tank buster role carpet bombing on IA tank force

What it will do make PAF job easier

IMHO the need for more MBT's to be used below Multan till Badin is rising out of India's thrust for greater number of modern MBT's in this larger area.

Despite man made water obstacles utilizing the SCARP program and forward deployment of our Armored Units in smaller satellite cantonments and holding areas, the need for more MBT's remains to blunt the expected armored thrust.

Two wars have been fought in the plains of Punjab using armored thrusts, but to no effect -- Med. Tanks are good enough in Punjab where engagements at extreme ranges are just not possible due to built up structures, canal system and Tree lines. It is also a good terrain for ATGW Teams with plenty of cover for shoot n scoot tactics. Testament to this is the use of Jeep mounted RR Teams during both wars (Indian Military Planners during wargames were most worried about the mobile RR Teams till the mid eighties when laying out plans for armored thrusts).

One can see the transformation in the Indian Armored Corps with tanks equipped with dozer blades and anti berm apparatus and better frontal armor. Increase in bridging equipment all point out to the fact that the opposing side is preparing to fight a battle in desert regions where sand berms and man made water obstacles will be used to funnel them in to killing zones.

PA on its part wants more and better equipped MBT's. Our mainstay MBT today is the T-80UD. Most of them are deployed in the south. We need better MBT's to be stationed in and around Cholistan Desert. Coupled with a hunt for dedicated Anti Tank Helo, acquiring better equipped MBT's is the need of the hour for PA.
