Who is the King of Jungle? Tiger or Lion

This is a long standing debate.Right from early Greeks who used to pit them one against another to the modern environmentalists, This remains an open question.The answer to this question not only varies one person to another but also varies with geographies.We, in the Indian subcontinent and all land East to it, swear by the undisputed king of jungle-Tiger. Here Sher means Tiger.But in the western society and their culture, Lion represents the King of the jungle.(I don't know about middle east)

I believe Tiger is and should be the rightful king of the jungle.Due to following.

1. Tiger is the heaviest and strongest cat weighing up to 300KG(Highest being 387 kg). Lion at max can weigh 250kg but average between 180-190Kg.
2. Tiger jaw strength is 1000psi while Lion's is only 600psi.
3. Tiger hunts alone but Lion hunts in packs.
4. Tough Lion is taller than Tiger but Tiger is longer than Lion.Tiger can stand on its hind legs and fight like a boxer but Lion has weak hind legs and can not stand on them.

So guys what do you think? You are in camp Lion or Camp Tiger.

Tigers are stronger and perfect killing machines. They pray on big animals alone, which lions only can kill when they are in form of groups.

But one on one with adult male lion, they can't hold neck of lion because of heavy mane. Tiger mainly kills by neck bite.

Leopards are more cunning. But in a one on one fight a leopard, Jaguar, Cheetah or even Panther is no match for a Lion or Tiger.

Btw which tiger do you guys think is stronger? Bengal tiger or Siberian Tiger? Siberia ones are bigger while Bengal tigers are more agile and fierce.

Pakistan has no Tigers considered Wild.

A house cat would probably do not care nor will the lion or the tiger to be called king of the jungle.

If one on one,the tiger always wins.
In ancient Rome they used to let them fight and the tiger never lost.
There are many reasons which favor the tiger.
Muscle density(denser muscle is stronger muscle),take a look at the width of the legs on the tiger and his lower center of gravity. This makes it easier for the Tiger to remain low and avoid attack.
On hind legs, the tiger has more leverage than the lion, and in a fight, both will have to rear up to both block and strike. Lions are not as good at rearing up, and rely on the teeth and mouth as a primary weapon, then make attacks of opportunity with the claws. The neck tufts on a lion do protect its neck from most attacks, but the tiger has powerful rear claws it can use to dig into the lion’s belly if it can get him on the ground and can easily land potent swipes with the front paws and its three inch long claws. Lions just don’t have as much leverage for such a swipe.

How come Lion is a king when Tiger is more powerful?

I am fan of both...Lions, especially the males, have to protect their prides from other males lions. Hence they excel in fighting. Tigers on the other hand are solitary animals so they become prefect hunters, as they, unlike lions, don't have other tigers to hunt for them

Leopards are too small for a tiger. Tiger will maul a Leopard in no time.

Well then the king has to be elephants. A herd African Bush Elephant would destroy a pride of lion, leopard or anything in the jungle.

African Lions dwell plains, but not Indian lions.
