Watch: Queen Elizabeth II shocked by ‘very rude’ Chinese officials ahead of state visit

. .
it was not supposed to be public, it was a private conversation that microphone picked. If you start recording everything people say, nobody will have honest conversation.

.
"Rude", as in not servile. Excellent IMO.

I'm still amaze when i see naive comments like this one
Britain has a tradition of politeness, gentlemanly, and respect especially towards guests, so guess we often expect others to be like us without knowing it's impossible since every country has its own different tradition, culture etc.. Go ask any tourist who has been to London (by far the world's most visited/popular tourist city) or the U. K and they will tell you how polite we are here..the hell even compared to other European countries we might consider them not polite enough, much less China. Lol
Overall, I think the Queens and Britain’s discomfort can be mainly attributed to differences of culture and political views. It has nothing to do with servitude or whatever some naive members here might think..:)
The ‘golden era’ of China-UK relations is built on profound bilateral interests. Rationality has a unique place in the long-histories of these two nations.:)

So, I think it is perfectly normal that the closer the relationship, the more friction there will be. It isn’t a big deal for your friend to complain a little bit in private. I presume Chinese officials make jokes about British officials in private too.:)

Exactly so. It was, at most, a symbolic gesture, which should not be taken seriously other as an insult individually on the Queen.

It was not.

It was a message from one political entity to another.

This is, to me, refined diplomacy. Less talking, more gesture and doing.

Diplomat don't just WALK OFF an official meeting. They are called Diplomat for a reason. Especially it is for a high end state visit.

The Chinese diplomat was at fault here, the diplomat should have resolve the issue with the chief of security and the British ambassador either publicly or private for whatever the issue he had. Threaten the trip is off and walk off is quite rude not just for diplomat, but basically in any given situation.

You don't walk off a meeting with a business partner, you don't walk off a meeting in school meet. If you do, then you are being rude. And the queen was right to call that Chinese diplomat being rude for that reason.

It's funny how some member here think this is ok as long as Chinese is pumping money in the UK, it's never okay to be rude, no matter how much money you had, try having a rich brag slap you in the face with money and tell me it's not rude.

Here are the conversation between the Queen and Commander D'Orsi

Edit:: In red
I'm really sorry..
In that case, diplomat need to apologize for being rude.
It's more disgraceful that people in this forum are way too rude.

I wish so. It was not, but it is becoming so. Which is good.

And tough Trump-ish people better get used to it before further humiliation.

Anytime when it is necessary, it will be done repeatedly in the future, as well.

of course you feel big disrespecting a very very old lady like coward is a good thing.

if those diplomats did that to trump, trump would cuss him them out..

ARE WE DISCUSSING THE AMERICAN OR THE CHINESE IN THIS POST?

I never said it is fine for ANYONE - AMERICAN INCLUDED to walk off a meeting, go find a news about American walk off a meeting, and open a thread if you want, this thread is ABOUT THE RUDE CHINESE DIPLOMAT.

I will ask you one last time, what this thread have got to do with the American??

Nope, Chinese are always rude everywhere they go, doesn't matter if it's in China or overseas.

If you overheard someone talking loud on the phone, chances are those are Chinese
If you ever heard about someone talking in the cinema,, chances are those are Chinese
If you saw spits on the floor, chances are, those are Chinese
If you saw something is broken in historical site, chances are those are the Chinese's work
If you saw someone is touching something inappropriately, chances are that someone is Chinese.
If you saw someone arguing in a restaurant for tips, chances are those are Chinese.
If you saw someone trying to slip some money to the policeman, chances are that someone is Chinese too.

So, nope, I think that's pretty routine to me.

hahahahaha.. i also starting to see the patterns with the members here.. the stereotypes does live up to reality.

Nice, I agree with you. When two sides get closer and closer, first thing both sides to see was negative part of both sides, so friction and misunderstood are common.

its part of being from a culture where you have to compete with lot of people for survival. Most new Indian arrivals to UK must appear to be incredibly rude. I know I was. Most Indians I see talk loudly in buses/trains. Indians dont queue. The awareness about what is going on around you is pretty low. British in public place usually mindful that they are sharing something hence they need to be careful. There are many more, like keeping door open when you see somebody is behind you, letting others go first depending on situation, the 'thank yous' and 'sorrys' for everything(which I find it really hard to do).

We have many culture specific etiquettes too in India, but westerner usually read/learn them before they arrive.

. .
Queen must have mistaken the leader of that other billion population country for China.

Indian leaders are used to worshipping the Queen so she probably expected that from Chinese leaders too.

And where did the India came from this discussion ?
Thread is about the 'behaviour' of Chinese offcial towards another nations' leader. So stay on that subject .
Donot drag India in to your cheap 'issues'.

Agree with you completely. As i said before, some people who have never been here will not understand our cultural etiquette, politeness, respect etc. There are basic things we expect from others you mentioned like not talking loudly in buses/trains/public places. respecting the queue(Queuing fairly is important in the UK: if someone was there
before you, let him/her be served first), keeping the door open when you see someone behind you, saying sorry for every little mishaps etc. these are all things people from other cultures like China, India etc who are new here don't usually respect or accustomed to when they first come here since its different in their country, so they don't follow that in the beginning.
So people have to adapt when they come here, after all, politeness never killed anybody, so they need to learn such basic aspects of life the BRITISH WAY.:thank_you2:

There are basically two type of member here, the feeble and misinformed. There are no where one would be in between.

You will understand more had you stayed longer, that is if you stayed longer.

Still, this is not an excuse to this type of behaviour........

I would have understand if that was simply a tourist behave badly in a different culture, almost all of us did that in a foreign land one way or another, the problem is that, it is a diplomat job to know and understand the culture of a foreign country, as you represent your own country.

Before I was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, I and my fellow soldier were given a 2 hours lecture on dos and don't on the foreign land. As we don't just fight a war over there, we are representing the United States of America. I even go so far to had with me a Koran and learn basic Arabic. That os what I will do to not to disrespect a foreign culture, and I am not even a diplomat.

However, the most amazing things on this subject here is how member try to justify this type of behaviour. Which in anyway, sort or form, seems like a stupid idea....

.

LOL :D Politics is a little more cruel than the fate that poor fellow faces. I think, in diplomacy, they will try to negotiate before throwing a life belt at you.

I think UK is one of the few countries really understand the symbolism in diplomacy. In that regard, we distinguish UK finesse from US coarseness.

You know what UK is one of the rational countries in the EU that supports China's market status position. So, I guess our nations understand each other better, including symbolic diplomacy. After all, you managed the entire India with the help of symbolic supremacy--more than real power.

LOL take it easy bro, those members here who try to justify such irrational and childish behavior are either naive, ignorant or they are merely trying to "boast their ego", since I understand how someone who can justify such behavior by saying it shows they are tough, big and don't give a shit about British officials or the west unlike other "developing countries".
Anybody saying such a thing is suffering from acute ignorance or maybe even inferiority complex? Lol since I don't see the point n being rude to your host just because you want to show you are now 'superior or big' the or whatever. Ioln
