WASHINGTON: The United States said it is ready to support Pakistan and India in finding a resolution to the Siachen conflict but said it primarily saw the issue being resolved by dialogue between the two countries.

“We have made clear to both India and Pakistan that we are prepared to be supportive in any way that might be helpful but primarily we see this being settled by dialogue between (them),” State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said.

She told reporters at the daily Press briefing that a team of US experts has arrived in Islamabad to help Pakistan with search and rescue efforts in the Siachen region, where Pakistan troops and civilians were buried under a large avalanche.

The eight-member team arrived in Islamabad from Afghanistan on Sunday, she said.

Nuland said that improved engagement between the neighbors would help provide more security and stability to millions of people.

In answer to a question whether a Pakistan lawyer Shahzad Akbar, who represents drone victims, is being denied or delayed a visa for a conference on drones in Washington later this month, Nuland asked reporters to refer US embassy in Islamabad regarding this case.

Here we go.. U.S. tries to play world leader again. :pop:

. .
Put the current positions on the map. Issue resolved.

Other than that we don't really have any urgency whatsoever to cede our land.

The Pakistanis can back down if they wish to. We're not stopping them.

.
Sorry Uncle Sam, the issue won't solve anything through dialogue enough has been said already.
Leave everything to Kashmiris. It is their land and its their right to decide what the solution is.
Unfortunately, you and your new ally India won't let that happen because you truly know what Kashmiris are hoping. Yes don't be shy. It is exactly the 'Independence' word...

.
uncle sam should keep its dirty hands in its own dirty pocket

India did not like third party mediation because US always favoured Pakistan in past.

Lets see what happens now, does India reject or accept?

If it accepts third party mediation for Siachin, it will have to accept third party mediation of Kashmir issue also.

. . .
This is called Teeli lagana. US knows India will react negatively to such mediation at a time when media is filled with articles about futility of occupying Siachen. Siachen can be resolved on my by mutual withdrawal (remember India lost 16 people a month and a half ago to another avalanche) and placing a smaller 100 member team at a safe observation point. Currently there are 20,000 people there.

unless you can prove to me that that was in Siachen, your comment would easily qualify for the ignorance of the highest degree award.

India has not lost a troop in Siachen for the past 8 years. We are not responsible if your Generals are incompetent of taking good care of their men and provide them with the necessary equipment etc.

BBC News - Kashmir avalanche kills 17 soldiers, Indian army says

Took place in 2010.. so much for

Past 8 years

Fact is we both plagued by avalanche's regardless of where they occur. Saichen Himalayan or small mountain doesn't matter.

Two things :

1. Has US ever been able to resolve a problem ? It has only worsened situations which may have solved itself if left to the local players.

2. India does not accept / need arbitration.

What ' dialogue' can US initiate which India & Pak not do by themselves should they wish to.
