WASHINGTON: The US fined a Chinese state-owned company $3 million Monday after it agreed to plead guilty to criminal charges for exporting US-made coatings to a Pakistan nuclear plant against US restrictions.

China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Construction Co. was charged with conspiring with the China subsidiary of the US company PPG Industries to deliver high-performance epoxy coatings to the Pakistan nuclear power plant without obtaining permission.

The Chashma II plant, under construction at the time the shipments were made, 2006-07, was on the US Treasury’s “Entity List” subjecting it to specific license requirements for exporting certain items to it.

PPG and its China subsidiary, PPG Paints Trading (Shanghai) Co, were already fined $3.75 million two years ago in the case.

“Huaxing — the PRC-corporate entity that bought the coatings for application in the Pakistani reactor — has accepted responsibility for its role in the crime,” said US Attorney Ronald Machen.

“The lesson here is clear: we will pursue violations of US export controls wherever they occur in the world, we will prosecute both individuals and corporate wrong-doers, and a corporation’s status as foreign-owned, or even state-owned, will not bar enforcement of those laws in US courts.”

The Chashma nuclear facility, in Punjab province, is controlled by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, which was placed under US export restrictions in 1998 after Pakistan successfully detonated a nuclear bomb for the first time.

This is what friends are for. China supplied Pakistan with the necessary parts when required, who cares for the consequences.
What is US$3 million to the Chinese? Peanuts.

when Pakistan will stop trading these US made banned nuclear products? when Pakistan will say proudly that our nuclear plant is indigeniously made? akhir kab?
these are the reasons why international community had put sanctions on us and we are disrespected worldwide

^^^^ Of course reputation doesnt matter right?

Think about why Pakistan is on the nuclear blacklist of most nations....China could suffer the same fate if it keeps violating international rules about nuclear (material and tech) trade.

For a change...someone who understands the importance of reputation in the geo-political arena..

LOL. China is right now the leading economy in the world. Who would dare put restrictions on China.LOL. USA is begging China for loans right now. China is giving it to them and also to Europe. All are dependent on China. LOL. Who will DARE to blacklist China? India.LOL.
Bhaiyaa might is right. Right now China is using that tool as it is an economic GIANT and the world knows it. LOL

We have to understand this one day that by making nuclear bomb with smuggling is not good for any of us where its you or us or anyone in the world! Germany, Holland and many other European countries have nuclear power plants since 60 or 70s but they didnt turn it into nuclear bombs because they know that if they made it then the humnanity would be in much danger than any mankind could have ever imagined so FOR GREATER GOOD they sticked to only nuclear plants but in a country like Pakistan or India who got independent on the basis of religion, there is much danger in making nuclear plants here!

Even though I do admit that might is right, it applies only in terms of settling disputes etc...
NOT when you are stepping on toes blatantly...

Are you theorizing that China can blatantly supply Iran with nuclear materials without any consequences? Do you think the US would give 2 shits before slapping China where it hurts?
The Chinese economy is but an element of its trade with other nations and the fact that it has managed to stay out of conflict for a relatively short period of time.....Political isolation can change all of that in a jiffy...

Need I remind you that a bully (individual) is only tough against another individual....Even the largest of bullies will succumb to a unified mob...
China is racking up enemies fast....it does not want to give other powers..esp US ammo to build a case against China's growth

And... wise-guy, who are you exactly?

Dude, remove foreign parts from India's so called indigenous plants, and you'd have a core-breach in seconds. Let's not play games here mate.

For a change...so
meone who understands the importance of reputation in the geo-political arena..

In todays world there is no such thing as "indigenous", every nation has varying capability to produce a set number of components locally, all rest are sourced from wherever available at best price, keeping in mind certain QC parameters.

Problem with us is, they won't even let us buy flippin coatings and epoxy. Whatever, doesn't matter, we shall do it ourselves!

How do you know that ?

Is it hard to produce the epoxy & the coating locally ?

Yara, it's really annoying to produce each and everything that goes into a nuclear plant. Imagine producing ALL of the lets say 4,000 distinct components that make up a PWR.
