U.S. feared India would intervene in Bangladesh after coup

@Beast , I suggest U avoid replying to Indians. Visit post no. 39 of mine. Infact this whole "Indian aid" thing was completely unnecessary to BD but rather forced down our throat.

India probably did not intervene military in 1971 because of the Emergency in that country. Already Indira Gandhi was having a difficult time justifying the emergency so a military intervention soon after would have been disastrous politically.

Do take a little trouble to check your posts before hitting the post button.

You must have that intelligence to figure out the sentence makes no sense if the year is 1971 so obviously a typographical error ..... Anyway that sorted out now .....

What will happen? Aliens will come to invade BD? :what:

Mir Jaffar thought that by betraying his empire, he'd get a high position after the British sweeped in. In the end, he didn't get any.

History repeats itself I guess.

I don't understand. Are you referring to any Bangladeshi entity betraying the country to India, and the probability that such a treacherous group would be as successful in making money as Mir Jafar had been earlier?

Very complicated.

@Loki , U do realise that U are arguing with an Indian, right? :undecided:

Nice intervention.

You are just the right person to instruct him on how to do so unsuccessfully.

why we didn't have any choice??please explain..we are not in charge of BD,nor we are bound to do that..are we??BD is a self sufficient country..and I didn't say BD was begging..I only pointed out the amout of economical assistance India gave to BD,that was the question of a pakistani member..anyway,as Loki said, back to the topic..

To answer, I can only say BD has become the focal point of Asia that starts at the India-Pakistan border and ends at Vietnam. Open the map and see where BD lies in. So, ASEAN, China as well as India - all have a stake in BD. India cannot even go to its own NE without BD assistance. It cannot expect a fruitful integration of NE with the mainland, and of the mainland itself with ASEAN economy without BD giving multiple sea, river and land routes.

India cannot even access China without BD first giving a land route. So, for India's own economic sake, it should resolve all the border and water disputes with BD, and come and court BD with tons of dollars that it needs to develop the required infrastructure.

oh really..you just read an article in PDF that said India signed deal that decreases distance to N-E to 200 kms and figure all this??? :hang2:

first of all..you need a good map and education..let me give you that kid..

thats indian subcontinent..and the eastern neighbour that is little bigger than West bengal is Bangladesh.they have no border with China, they are surrounded by Indian N-E states and West Bengal.N-E isn't a cutoff region.we have well placed communication, rail lines and roads in place.China is our north,so why the hell we need BD for???and for doing business with asean, read this..

India, Myanmar, Thailand road connection by 2016

India, Asean aim to rebuild road, sea connectivity

we completely bypassed BD,we don't even need you.we selected Mayanmar to connect Asean.

one advice, don't give importance too much when you have none.it makes you look like a fool.the importance you've claimed BD has, actually that Mayanmar has.BD is just another small country with no strategic value.neither China, nor India is eyeing or jostling for place there.its Mayanmar alone.

India cannot just bypass Bangladesh. Throw away all those trash tea sipping meeting reports to the gutter. We have seen already how you have developed that hilly siliguri corridor for the last 65 years when India is pulling off its hairs and begging BD to give a transit via its Ctg port and Akhaura. Why would India beg us if your links are such important?

Grow up boy and do not let all those Dehliwala politicians deceive you for another 65 years. BD will remain the focal point of trades among ASEAN, China and India. Instead of a 2500 km of detour through rebel infested NE, India should go for ocean transportation.

1.Re-1975 coup. This was organized by CIA. Sheikh and his govt's security was being ensured by Indians under Brig Vohra. Indian intel had obviously withdrawn their security umbrella for the coup to take place. As such there never was any fear of Indian intervention.

2. Also remember, in Aug 1975 Pakistan and China had not reconciled with the creation of BD. As such there was no reason for them to intervene also. In Aug the Himalayan passes are not snow-blocked.

3. Just after the coup, the number two man in the coup, Rashid had visited Army HQ and assured the DMO that they had ensured that there would be no Indian interference.

4. Also vitally important to understand is that Sheikh Mujib's politics was pro-Two Nation Theory. In the international arena he had gained a stature beyond Indira Gandhi's. The Bengalees of India were also looking up-to him as their leader. India was very much involved in the killing of the Sheikh.

Can you give some links supporting your wild claims?

And if Mujib was pro Two Nation Theory why the heck would Indian Hindu Bengalis look up to him. This is a contradictory statement you make.

:omghaha: :omghaha: :omghaha:

our Siliguri corridor and N-E is much better state and has couple of times of economy even in turmoil than your country..and tea sipping meeting??can't bypass Bangladesh????LOL..you already got bypassed.post something logical..

and for Indian road via BD,why the hell we carry products from kolkata dock to 2000 kms away to N-E states when our next door neighbour can provide the road that reduces the distance to 200 km??use brain..do you intend to carry your powerlines from Nepal to thousands of kms away via China and Mayanmar, then in BD to bypass India??the same logic is applied here too..

and for your obsession with "Focal Point",do you even see anything China is carrying through BD??and whats use of BD when Mayanmar has sea ports and they can use it far better efficient manner than BD??

@eastwatch, what I saw in the Shahbag protests is that the middle class youth going after the culprits - the politicians are bound to use the mileage, the atrocities have happened and by due process BDians have identified the culprits - to be honest I am not much aware of BD's internal politics but was mightily impressed with the progressive population of BD who demanded extreme punishment to the one's who helped in unleashing the torture and saw a new dawn in BD - but then it got somewhat sidelined with petty politics and the Islamic parties jumping in and the unnecessary violence. I hope the millions who suffered in the 1971 pogrom get justice in the end and BD evolves to be a moderate state where Islamo fascists do not have a place.

1) I agree that the war criminals should be punished. But, I would also say all war criminals irrespective of party orientation must be equally punished.

2) Delwar Hossain Sayedi has been wrongly accused and has been setenced to death unlawfully.

- Sayedi was in the Pabna district during 1971 war, and participated in politics well after the war ended.

- The Hindu witness who was supposed to support Sayedi in the Court was denied to enter the Courtroom and now no one knows his whereabouts.

- I saw in a video posted in some thread that the tribunal did not even call a witness named Zafar Iqbal whose father was killed in 1971. He is the younger brother of writer Humayun Ahmed. Zafar was not called as a witness, althogh his mother wrote a book that did not claim that it was Sayedi who killed her husband.

3) A Judicial Court must be above public sentiment. It must not decide on the newspaper cuttings nor should it be swayed by the opinions of Shahbaghi teenager atheists, who have no knowledge that the govt's only goal is to stop Opposition.

4) A Govt is supposed to find out the real criminals and try them in the Court. But, AL alone is the plaintiff, Police, Prosecutor as well as Judicial. How do you think a true trial verdict can be achieved when the judicial is doing exactly what they have been ordered to do by the govt?

5) The trial must be fair and transparent. But, the war crime tribunal is a farce. Zafar was not called as a witness. Another Hindu witness was hijacked by the govt hooligans while on his way to the tribunal. He said in a statement given to Police earlier that Sayedi was not one of those who attacked the Hindu houses in 1971.

These are the things people are trying to protest here and there. But, as many here have been tagged as Jama*ti, so whatever they say to defend Delwar Hossain Sayedi is regarded as bickering. But, the reality is, the bickering AL govt is taking full advantage of the ill-versed opinion of only a small segment of people and is determined to kill the non-criminals of 1971 war.

Indian Hinu Bengalles had begun worshiping him as an avatar of Netaji. They found in the Sheikh a man who would assist them in getting out of the Brahmonic dictatorship of Delhi.

wtf is Brahmonic dictatorship. You do live in a world of your own don't you

Now tell me, if Mujib believed in TNT (I believe he did) meaning hindus and muslims cant co-exist, so why would any Indian Bengali look up to him as an idol. And you did'nt give me links supporting your wild claims

I am sitting here in Guwahati wondering what the hell you are blethering about.

We can achieve economies, but these are economies, these are not necessities.
