"Americans elect candidate-designated electors"Strictly speaking true, but in practice false: Americans elect candidate-designated electors who then vote for president but that's pretty much a formality.
That is, in practice, NOT electing the president.
That is also the reason why 1 out of every 4 elections the president happens to be the one the minority of the nation voted for while the candidate the majority of the nation voted for fails.
