Turkish President Abdullah Gul has inaugurated a factory in western Turkey that will produce engine parts for the F35 fighter jet, a highly sophisticated combat aircraft. The inauguration ceremony in Izmir province on Friday hosted President Gul and Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci, as well as officials from U.S.-based Pratt & Whitney and Turkey’s Kale Group, cofounders of the factory.

Lockheed Martain r producing F-16 jet fighters in Turkey, As USA shifted the F-16 fighter jet just assembly plant to Turkey bcz Labour r heap and in abundance compare to USA!!

F-16 Peace Onyx
Turkish arms manufacturers' most ambitious undertaking was a consortium with United States firms to produce F-16 fighter aircraft. Most of Turkey’s 240 Lockheed Martin F-16s were co-produced in Turkey by a predecessor firm of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). In September 1983, the government of Turkey announced plans to buy 160 F-16s under the Peace Onyx I program, which operates under the Foreign Military Sales program. The first eight aircraft in the order were built at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, with the remaining 152 aircraft assembled in Turkey.

The first eight aircraft in the order were built at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, with the remaining 152 aircraft assembled in Turkey at TUSAS Aerospace Industries (TAI) at Murted. TUSAS is an acronym for Tusas Ucak Sanayii AS, or Turkish Aircraft Industries, a company owned jointly by Turkish and American shareholders.

The Government of Turkey (GOT) entered into a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) with the US Air Force to purchase F-16 aircraft, to be manufactured by Lockheed under the FMS program. This program was entitled “Peace Onyx.” In conjunction with this program, the GOT sought and obtained co-production of certain elements of the F-16 in Turkey. Under this arrangement, airframes for the F-16s were produced in a factory at Mürted Air Base near Ankara by TÜSAS (Türk Uçak Sanayi Sirketi) Aerospace Industries [TAI], with 51 percent ownership by Turkish interests, 42 percent by General Dynamics, and 7 percent by General Electric. Among other things, TAI performedfinal assembly of the F-16s, known as “mate through delivery” or MTD. The engine plant near Eskisehir is a joint venture with General Electric.

Turkey got most of US locakhead martian business bcz Turkey has world class ENgineering universities..Pak need at least 10 new world class engineering universities to produced jets locally!

Actually Turkey has best engineering universities therefore they r ahead to Pak in aerospace industry..

Pak air force should invest all the money to build 10 engineering universities in Pak to develop own aerospace industry!

Turkey has always helped Pakistan but I think now its time that we not only take Turkish help but learn from Turks as well. Turkey has a very matured aviation industry and we can learn a lot from them. I personaaly think with the help of Turkey and China we must start our own helicopter program.

Anyways coming back to topic which F-16s are we getting upgraded? As far as I know all our F-16s were MLUed except for the Jordanian ones. Or are we getting the F-16V upgrade?

The F16V upgrade can only be done with a lot of noise coming from the US. Can it be done when the countries that will be involved are going to be UAE and Turkey. The answer is a maybe. Since Pakistan is continuing to want more F16's of any kind and in any condition it seems to me they are putting their eggs in the basket of Turkey and UAE or just Turkey to give them the edge when required. Thats just my take on it. You can not get this kind of capability any cheaper. And cheaper is what we are dumbed down to pursuing as a nation. Is this cheaper model any less effective? A 100 of these upgraded jets are not a joke for any country as long as they are used in a defensive roll. What more can you want? I would say its excellent planning.

Modernisation of Jordanian ones ???

This is just the phase I announced. This was also the purpose of NS's visit to Turkey day before yesterday (no he didn't go to ask the President on how to tackle the Army as majority of you believe in through propaganda). It was the Wedding and this deal he had to sign. I mentioned that on this forum a few days ago but politically depressed people don't listen to the truth and don't believe in it!!

There will be 24-28 jets modernized close to block 52 standards. The next wave will be of another 8-12 jets from some squadron participating in FATA operations. The idea is to get these jets upgraded with SNIPER like capability for precision strikes, as the US had said no to giving the Eight F-16's, so the need was still there for precision strike capability.

With all her world class engineering universities why doesn't Turkey produce her own fighter jets other than copying what the US makes? As for Pakistan having engineering universities, most of the young Pakistanis with high IQ leave Pakistan for making dollar abroad, they prefer living in the west. Building university buildings is nothing but getting qualified faculty and then having students are challenging tasks. Anyway Pakistan should focus on having at least two world class engineering universities. Having the ability to produce jet engines has become imperative for Pakistan but for some reasons the focus is not there.

Guys these are not those F-16 which we got from Jordan but these are those 14 F-16 which came from USA which were supposed to come way back in 80s but USA refused to supply them.

@HRK

Not to speculate amount mentioned is 75 Mil US$ for how many jets it is unknown . In my view this upgrade may involve strengthening of structure to add more life to platforms .No AESA or Electronics since amount is very less ,Since F16 are already going there ,may be part of 2008 MLU stage 2 where necessary fatigues are tested and strength have been added to existing platform

Its Pak media rereport (old news) the news when NS was Turkey by taking bribe from G-vot.. Indeed G-ovt r lyying with country men..

What u wrote its not true and sheer misleading , Lockheed Martian r upgrading F16 in Turkey. ITs agreement between Pak and USA since time of purchased (either from USA or via third country what so ever case under US permission)!! bcz its very expensive to upgrade in USA, even USA air force do upgradation/overhaul of there jets in Turkey and other places that have cheap man power! Its pak corrupt media(taking bribe 4m NS) that r making us fool by re-reporting years old news at time of Nawaz Sharif personal visit

These F 16 air craft that r going under modernization in Turkey that r part of agreement with USA,
its USA Lockheed martian r doing for Pak at there factory in Turkey... Bcz Lockheed martin factory r now in Turkey not USA. Turkish govt can not decide 2 modernize Pak f 16 without USA Lockheed martin permission.
Again these F 16 r under modernization by US Lockheed martin with permission of USA in Turkey!!

An F-16C of the Turkish Air Force, produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries
Peace Onyx IV F-16 Program

In December 2006, Undersecreteriat for Defense Industries was given the authorization by the Defence Industry Executive Committee for the procurement of 30 Block 50+ F-16 Aircraft from Lockheed Martin through Foreign Military Sales Program. In this scope, an LOA was signed between TAI and the main contractor Lockheed Martin on December 5, 2008.

Under this contract TAI has successfully performed the assembly and flight operations of 30 F-16 Block50+ and all aircrafts were delivered earlier than the scheduled delivery dates to Turkish Air Force with 7 "Perfect" and 19 "Zero Defect" quality at TAI's facilities . Project, as planned, was finalized in December 2012 with an outstanding success.
