Turkey to modernize F-16 fighter jets of Pakistan Air Force

Personally , the visors are quite heavy and you sweat alot wearing the gear , so nice to have none visor mode / visor mode

You are only thinking of what you have seen in the present. It will only get better and better as time goes by. If the glasses fail you can grab another pair since you'll have more cockpit room or just ask the AI in the plane to help you finish your mission.

Less hardware in the cockpit means less mechanical stuff that can break/degrade. Easier interface upgrades as it will all be done in software. Less cost. It is only a matter of time until this becomes standard.

A lot of expensive physical items we take for granted will be gone in the near future.

Its a bit unpractical to use augmented reality in dog fight, as high G pressure your body and mind tremendously. You head and eyes do move rapidly

However for UAV which are controlled from stable none G environment the Augmented reality would be reasaonable (Talking about ground based control units)

Even in a commercial plane , which has turbulance , Augmented reality does not works well

If you ever had orange juice spill on you while seated in commercial plane due to turbulance you will agree

Augmented reality looks fancy but when you are on a stable none moving ground

Hardware won't go away soon , it will continue to display data with bigger screen and more views to view Air/ground threats

This is basically Pakistan saying we'll buy some when it's ready to be bought. Why doesn't Pakistan just join as an partner like UK is doing, guess they want channels with China to still be open ?

It boils down to Pakistan's funding ability. It doesn't have the money to take a lot of risks, so when it comes to developing a 5th-gen fighter, it'll work with those it's most comfortable with - i.e. China. Ultimately, Pakistan has more experience working with CAC than it does with TAI, let alone BAE (i.e. zero experience).

That said, there is a chance that Pakistan might contribute a little bit (5-10%) to the development and be a minor partner in-exchange for some co-production work. The PAF might even consider 1-2 squadrons to replace the older F-16s in the late 2020s or early 2030s.

It's already in the process of happening (3 years ago). Airbus is talking about removing the windows from the cockpit and using just OLED screens and augmented reality.

Removing the windows will probably happen in fighters since laser dazzlers will start becoming common.

Even 5-10 % development cost of project above 25 Billion $ will be very high ,what i believe that Pakistan will be close to level 3 for TAI FX as expertise gained from Chinese project will come handy specially in manufacturing the plane since baseline is already placed in Kamra so this is much more feasible in terms of finances also an important part which we never discuss is potential customer as TAI will be looking for larger number of these planes simply to achieve the economies of scale .

e.g a case study is F35 and its market potential calculated

So Turkey needs Pakistan to share some numbers as well ,as soon as the potential country emerges the cost of producing goes down .

Jordanian F16? why not Mirage 2000s from UAE? wasnt that a better option for PAF?

Second hand purchase
In late 2013 it became apparent that Pakistan was to acquire a batch of second-hand Jordanian F-16s. Program details have these to be 12 A-models and 1 B-model. Supposedly they are 'standard' models without the MLU upgrade. Although this seems to be unlikely since Jordan doesn't have that quantity of non-MLU F-16s in their inventory any longer and it would also seems strange since Pakistan is updating its older airframes with the MLU upgrade package, adding another non-standard airframe to the inventory. Time will tell which airframes are included in this deal and in which form (MLU or non-MLU) they are delivered.

When deliveries started in May of 2014 is was obvious that the order compromised the Jordanian airframes of the Peace Falcon I order. Three of those crashed over the years with 13 of them remaining. Although only one B-models was announced with the first delivery already 2 were on the tarmac and the other 2 followed soon. So now it is obvious that the order compromised 9 A-models and 4 B-models in the ADF version. These airframes haven't been upgraded to MLU standard. With Pakistan upgrading all its older A/B models to the MLU standard it would seem obvious that these airframes will also be upgraded accordingly. The future will tell us whether this will come to fruition.
