Because the conservative Turks from inner turkey have in reality been largely ostracised for generations it meant that the liberal parties and liberal turks had their way, they could ban head scalfs, and take turkey down a liberal slide to better represent them, in some elections voter turn out was pathetic to say the least


If you can get a party like the AKP who better represents more concervative Turks, then as long as the party isnt terrible or the leader too incompetant or dislikeable then if voter turn out is reasonable you can expect regular victories for the likes of AKP because the secular liberal types simply couldnt match the numbers
