TTP, Lashkar-e-Islam Fight in Khyber Agency

Twenty-five people have died in fierce clashes between the Taliban and Lashkar-e-Islam militant groups in the restive Khyber tribal region in northwest Pakistan, sources said today.
The clashes erupted last night following a botched attempt by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan fighters to kidnap Lashkar-e-Islam leader Mani Gul in Tabai Bazar area of Khyber Agency.
The Lashkar-e-Islam foiled the abduction and both sides exchanged fire.
Eight persons were killed in the initial fighting while 17 more died later, the sources said.
The dead includes members of both militant groups and local residents who were caught in the cross firing.
The gun battle between the two sides continued till this afternoon, source said.
This was the second time that the area has witnessed an armed clash between the Taliban and the Lashkar-e-Islam.
Members of the Lashkar-e-Islam kidnapped some Taliban fighters a few days ago for their involvement in the abduction of two Sikhs from the Tirah valley.
The Lashkar-e-Islam members made the Taliban fighters pay a fine and this infuriated the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan’s leadership.
The attempted kidnapping of the Lashkar-e-Islam leader was an attempt by the Taliban to take revenge, the sources said.

Lashkar-e-Isalm is headed by Mangal Bagh Afridi, a militant commander of Khyber Agency. He is not affiliated with TTP. Has a volunteer army of some sorts. He was involved in attacks on NATO supply. They have had clashes with the TTP for control over the Agency since they never allowed the Taliban to settle in. He is blamed for several attacks in Pesahwar.

Death toll hits 21 in TTP-LI clash

LANDIKOTAL: The death toll from the ongoing clashes between groups of two militant organisations — Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Swat chapter — has reached 21 as 13 more combatants were killed and five others injured in fighting in the Tabai area in Landikotal Tehsil of Khyber Agency, official and tribal sources said on Sunday.

After the death of eight people on Saturday night, the LI gunmen chased the TTP fighters and besieged them in the Sur Ghar mountain area, where the rest of their men were hiding. Both sides used sophisticated weapons against each other during the fresh clashes, leaving 13 more combatantsdead from both sides, tribal sources told The News.

Khyber Agency’s political administration confirmed the killing of 10 more militants, including six from the TTP and four from the LI. Seven TTP gunmen, including one who was seriously injured, were abducted by the LI gunmen, the sources said, adding they also took along five TTP double-cabin pickups to an undisclosed base in the area.

On the other hand, residents in Tabai village have started migrating to safer areas in Khyber Agency and Peshawar to avoid harm as the fighting was still going on. The Swati Taliban, belonging to the TTP, took refuge in the Khyber Agency after fleeing the military operation launched against them in Swat last year.

APP adds: Twenty-five people have been killed, including key commanders, and eight others sustained injuries, during violent clashes between groups of the Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) and the Tehrik-e-Taliban in the remote Tirah valley of Tehsil Landikotal here on Sunday.

The firing between the banned groups continued in parts of the Tirah valley as the death toll, from the deadly skirmishes that started on Saturday, rose to 25 on Sunday, political administration sources said.

The clashed erupted when unidentified armed men tried to kidnap Lashkar-e-Islam commander Mani Gul from Zakakhel Tabay on Saturday. On Sunday, supporters of the Lashkar-e-Islam also obtained control over hideouts of the Taliban. The dead were identified as Jahanzaib of Shalobar, Qambar Khail, Mast Ali, Ajoob, Juma Khail, Autman Gul, Zoot Ali, Sadam, Shan Muhammad allies Shena, Muhammad Wali, Machi Gul and Man Gul.

i think this mangala bagh guy has exactly got the same fanatic ideas as the taliban. but it is good to see them fight each other, i just pray that the locals dont get hurt in this fighting.
