TTP, Lashkar-e-Islam Fight in Khyber Agency

Interesting -- Why are they fighting? What are they fighting over?

The best thing to do would be to let them fight it out.

Its in our best interest, if you were to ask the a question, it would just confuse them and stop killing each other.

And what about collateral damage?

Ideally speaking, there shouldn't be any two groups fighting over a land that belongs to the third group (Pakistan).

What exactly is left there or was there to begin with that can be damaged.

As for the local population, you will find that the militants operate in sparsely crowded areas. Population centers have high security presence and the militants avoid these.

These areas are not under the control of our government, have not been since the creation of Pakistan. This is an ideal opportunity to gain control of these areas but we do not live in an ideal country. Hence the ideal situation you are contemplating is far fetched idea.

Power. And it is not restricted to these two groups. Rival gangs of militants have killed each other in South Waziristan [Maulvi Nazir vs Baitullah group], [Maulvi Nazir vs IMU], North Waziristan, Bajaur and Kurram before. Each hold sway over certain parts and fight to protect it.

I thought using the name Lashker is banned now?? Are we going back towards Pukhtoon tribal warefare under different names and excuses?? That seems to be the favourite passtime of these people.

It's an old group. And it is a banned outfit. Just like the TTP. But it doesn't change the reality. Two ops have taken place against this particular group in Khyber in the past one year.

And Things are the way they are?? Things that make you go "hmmm"

These so called "operations" leave much to be desired -

It depends on the objectives of the Ops. The primary task was to secure the immediate surroundings of Pesahwar. Secondly, to strike at their command and control structures to curb their ability to conduct terror strikes. And, bear in mind that these ops were conducted by the FC and not by the Army. It seems there was initial success. Martyred Siffwat Ghayur had a big role to play. Obviously, these elements - when pressed - disintegrate and take refuge in Afghanistan, only to reemerge. And, these clashes indicate that the two groups are now hard-pressed for territorial control. Tirrah Valley, which borders Orakzai, is right now believed to be a hub and is being targetted frequently.

Oh, I don't know about all this - We all know that these groups dissipate - but why can't security forces secure their own border and how is it that after each "op" and claims of having routed these groups, that they so easily reform - someone is being less then truthful.

But Why? what's the larger game??

I don't see the reason to doubt the Ops. It's not possible to man the whole border. We don't have the tech to do it either. The issue becomes complicated further when these elements find official patronage on the other side. IG FC is on record, when Pakistan forces entered into Damadola for the first time since independence, that Governor of Kunar was harboring the militants and was arming and financing them to fight against Pakistani forces. I have heard first-hand accounts of people who intercepted communications from across the border, caught suplies and arms being slipped across the border. Who is backing this Governor is anyone's guess.

The repeated lack of success is reason enough to doubt the substance of these so called "ops" --- And we can't control the border, give over to someone who has the "WILL" to do it -- see, it does take men and tech, but what it really takes is the "will" to do it.

The people of Pakistan and the world will not for much longer give these so called "security forces" a free pass.

Pakistani military planners, especially the ISI types are terrible, terrible understanding the long term trends and consequences of their pawns on the social fabric of what is today Pakistan.

Good going retards , this is excellent let them finish each other off

I am not privy to the ISI types. But one thing that i do know is that there is no dearth of 'WILL'. I won't doubt it and i won't let people question it.

I have met young kids, men who have a heart bigger than these terrorists. Imagine seeing a kid, whose beard hasn't fully grown, with his hip-joint blown up by an RPG - crippled for life - and has the guts to laugh about it and want to do it all over again. That takes some WILL. I don't know what fumbles the higher-ups have committed. But the Swat Op is a reminder that our boys are up to the job as always.

.
Gunner - I'm simply pointing to facts, the lack of success. Either there are many many times more the terrorists the government claims there are or such operations are not designed to permanently decapitate and disrupt such groups - I mean these are but the obvious implications, right?

No one is challenging our boys grit - but if these terrorists can't be handled, you want Pakistanis to be persuaded that they can be kept safe from the Indian??
