Let me put it this way,
In one familly you have a secularist,islamist,communist,socialist.
Turkey was allways like that and will allways stay like that.
Many seculars vote for Erdogan and many Islamist vote for CHP(socialist party)or MHP(nationalist party).
The definition of secular in Turkey is different from all other countries as is the definition of Islamist in Turkey.
Our Islamists do not want the country to turn into a sharia law country.
Our seculars do not want the country to lose the Islamic identity.
So what i'm trying to say is that its complicated.
I am a secular muslim Turk,for me religion has no role in politics.
Erdogan won only because many seculars voted for him(economy doing well).

No, ezan was never forbidden, its was spoken in Turkish for sometimes, hijab was also never generally forbidden there was a ban for all religious symbolys in govermental buildings. But nobody had to remove hijab on streets.

The liberals in places like Pakistan or bangladesh laud secularism, but secularism in practice in the muslims world has always meant repression of islam and muslims...

Until recently even wearing the hijab was banned in Turkey and other places like Tunisia so a muslim in their own country couldnt go to university to get a education unless she followed the secularists demand to shed her faith

That is just one example of secular repression of islam and muslims
