The Economist: Bangladesh’s GDP per capita now higher than Pakistan’s

Why is this thread still open? BD has surpassed PK in GDP and has long ago surpassed in social indicators like child mortality, female literacy etc.

It’s a done deal and established fact. Let the naysayers scream their disbelief it really matters not a lot to BD and it’s future.

Just like the flat earthers these people are unable to accept data from global organisations such as the UN and simultaneously are unable to provide alternative research. As a last refuge they resort to a racist narrative taught to them by their colonial masters.

Is this thread being left open to encourage trolling by the moderators?

The pack of Indian and Pakistani posters who spend so much time attacking BD is only because they are butt-hurt at the fact that BD is doing so good with 24 years less of independence. With the Pakistanis it has destroyed their sense of racial superiority they had over Bengalis.

We shouldn't be happy by surpassing a country like pakistan. Our aim should be much, much higher.
Don't be such a douchebag, Pakistan is leagues ahead of Bangladesh.

I never claimed that Pakistan was ahead of China and USA you twit.

I just said Pakistan is leagues ahead of Bangladesh as an overall country.

Bangladesh should be compared to countries like Bolivia, South Sudan, and Zimbabwe.

Nice try, It is a Bangladesh section in a Pakistani forum. Go to a Bangladeshi forum if you want to do some Bangladeshi chest thumping against Pakistanis.

Dude, why are you getting upset about this?
If you are not one of the Pakistani trolls who joins Indian trolls 24/7 to bash BD, then this was of course not directed at you. Vast majority of Pakistanis on this forum are very decent folks. The admin team are superb and that is why you have such a diversity of people here. This forum would be very dull place if it did not have the diversity of opinion that it does.

As regards BD versus Pakistan, well in terms of GDP/capita, BD has edged ahead and is miles ahead in GDP/capita growth - 6% for BD and 3% for Pakistan. Pakistan growth is getting faster with CPEC but so is BD with the political stability and infrastructure projects.

Yes as a country Pakistan is still better in terms of infrastructure since it has had higher per capita till only last year, but BD is now developing far faster than Pakistan. Pakistan should try to catch up wth BD per capita growth and it would be doing well.

It is the regions which prospers, If Bangladesh grows it is better for the region including Pakistan and other countries...Just like wars and chaos trickles down to neighbors, so is the growth and prosperity.

And every country wants/needs prosperous happy neighbors...just as individuals do.

Not denying your claims but can you at least post concrete, irrefutable and reliable evidence that supports them. Then at least it will prevent trolling and unnecessary/fasle counter claims which seem to plague ALL military/patriotic forums on the internet.

bangladesh is NOT in our region. They are at least 2500 kms away from us. We are next door to Iran and are geographically far more closer to the Middle East than bangladesh. Their negative effects are definitely trickling into Pakistan.

Neighbor's neighbor... even Chanakya also thinks that way(the importance of it).

The people are friendly, generally speaking, forget the current government policies under influence of India.

Pakistan will be rebasing its GDP at the end of 2018, will results in substantial increase in GDP nominal and hence GDP PPP and that includes per capita GDP.

‘GDP to be rebased by the end of 2018,’ says Asif Bajwa, Chief Statistician PBS

This is a 2013 report about Pakistan informal economy.

This is substantially larger than previous estimates of between 30 per cent to 50 per cent (albeit using different methodologies). If correct, this implies that the overall size of Pakistan’s economy, both reported as well as unreported, is around $420 billion, with private consumption at current prices amounting to a whopping $365bn in 2012 (which would explain the consumption “conundrum” I have written about previously).

Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are ALSO our neighbour's neighbour. Do their socio-economic activity affect Pakistan too? If not then how on earth can a nation like bangladesh that is more than 2500 kms away from us of whom we have nothing in common with?

Yes they do matter, check the Pakistani diaspora in these countries and the remittances. Turkey Pak relationship is closest and important for us.

Similarly prosperity in Bangladesh will have a positive effect on Pakistan, it goes both ways. Pakistan textile companies have invested about 2 billion USD in Bangladesh to utilize the GSP status and quotas, and tariff free trade in EU and Europe...also check the Bangladesh and Pakistan trade, imports and exports.
