Pakistan wants India match shifted out of Dharamsala

Pakistan have asked the ICC for a change of venue of their World T20 match against India, scheduled to be held in Dharamsala on March 19, after receiving a report from its three-man delegation that 'security is not assured' at the venue. ESPNcricinfo has learned that the report was handed over to the board and Pakistan's federal interior minister, Chaudary Nisar, after which it was decided that the Pakistan team would not travel to India on Wednesday as scheduled.

The PCB had, earlier on Tuesday, written to the ICC chief executive David Richardson asking to consider an alternative venue for the marquee match on March 19. It's understood to have proposed Kolkata or Mohali as a replacement for Dharamsala.

DARAMSALA: ICC World T20 director MV Sridhar on Tuesday revealed that the Pakistan security team has assessed the security measures taken in Dharamsala, adding that they have been categorically assured by the district administration that ample security would be provided to the players during the much-awaited clash against India on March 19.

Sridhar revealed that the PCB security team, which assessed the security measures taken in India for the safety of their players, had inspected the venue and also had a discussion with the BCCI and tournament officials.

"The PCB delegations visited Dharamsala yesterday. There they have seen the entire premises. They have engaged with us (BCCI) and the tournament officials and the local officials of the HPCA (Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association) also. After that, we have had the conversation with the district administrative officials, which includes the District Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police. We have met all of them and they have given their feedback," he told the media.

The tournament director said that both the district administration and the police have assured to take appropriate measures for the security of any team which visits the state, adding that the information in this regard had been clearly communicated to the Pakistani delegation.

"The outcome is that the district administration has very clearly categorically stated that they are committed to giving complete security, not only for India vs Pakistan match, but for all the matches which are going to be held in Dharamsala. That's the commitment given by both sides- the administration and the police security side. So, that has been clearly communicated to the Pakistani delegation," Sridhar insisted.

Sridhar said that he was optimistic that the World T20 match between India and Pakistan would be held in the scheduled venue Dharamsala.


"I am more than hopeful on behalf of the BCCI and on the behalf of the tournament that whatever the actual status on the ground has been communicated to the PCB team. And now the decision is with them. Obviously, they will also consult their own government, High Commission, based on that they will come back to us," he added.




A two-member PCB security delegation comprising senior director of the Federal Investigation Agency Usman Anwar and Col. Azam from the Ministry of Interior arrived in India yesterday to assess the situation ahead of the Dharamsala T20.



Earlier, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had hinted that the centre was ready to provide paramilitary forces after Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh expressed his inability to provide security after the ex-servicemen and families of slain army officials opposed to the match involving Pakistan in the wake of the recent Pathankot terror attacks.




The Pakistan security team will now submit their report to the PCB and Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan before the cricket team is cleared to travel to India.

If anyone, it's you embarrassing yourself. You still don't get it..do ya? Nothing is going to change my friend. You guys will show up on time & play matches as scheduled, on venues as prescribed, like a good boy! No hosting country ever claimed they can't provide adequate enough security to any visiting country. Pakistan will get adequate enough security cover like any other visiting team would get.

I don't see any fault with pcb here. Our moron state minister flipped and as any responsible government, Pakistan wants to make sure if the arrangements are good enough for visiting team. I am sure India would have done the same. Glad everything is ok now.

T20 world cup is a international tournament which is being organised by international cricket council and unfortunately its being hosted by India which politicise cricket and is home of many extremist nationalist jokers and Pakistan has to attend this international cricket event as per ICC rules otherwise could bear fine but safety of our cricketers is first priority and we are not desperate thats why we did not sent our team yet but our security delegation is in India for security assessment and then they will submit their report to interior ministry ..Team will travel only if satisfactory security is ensured and Pakistani security delegation give green signal for it

Security or no security pakistan like a good boy will come to india and play like a good boy, obey all rules.

India is hosting this event not for the first time. Pakistan will get as much of a security as any other team here would get. Your plea of special attention would not even be considered.

By the way even PCB knows their players are more safe in india that pakistan. May be PCB is worried because pakistan govt has alerted india that 10 terrorists have entered india from pakistan. So basically PCB is wanting security from your own 10 guys.
